Cambridge Dictionary is being blasted by critics online for revising the definition of “man” and “woman” to include people who do not identify with the sex they were assigned at birth.
“Man” is now includes the definition “an adult who lives and identifies as a male though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.”

In the same vein, the updated definition of “woman” reads “an adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.”

Both definitions previously reflected the outdated views on sex, which assumed that sex and gender identity always adhered to one another.

As long as I don't have to use the politically correct term "people who menstruate".

Not only is that uncomfortable to say, it is a mouthful with too many syllables for substituting the words Female and Woman.

This is absolutely nothing against trans on my part, but I thought this was funny.

Why not front bum and rear bum people?

Didn't the NHS or some sort of respected authority with good social standing use those terms or something similar recently?

I could have sworn the NHS said "Front bum birth" a few months ago.

If its an add-on to the original definition, and not a replacement for it (listed as a secondary derivative and less frequently used meaning) then I am okay with it.

?

I don't menstruate, and I'm a woman.

Is that really a term?

Seems it defeats the purpose, because transwomen wouldn't menstruate either.

I guess this adds an extra line of conversation for parents to talk to their children about the birds and the bees

I thought you were non-binary?

Women who have had various surgical procedures, take the Pill, and who are post-menopausal, don’t lose their “womanhood” because they don’t menstruate.

I don’t have a prostate, and can’t make babies. That doesn’t mean I am not a full, 100% man.

Apparently, whoever coined that term never heard of menopause and didnt realize that his own Moma had probably stopped mensturating, and was thus 'no longer a woman' by his own definition.

Women stop menstruating for reasons other than menopause, but yeah I agree.
It doesn't make sense.

I know.

I picked the one most dumb obvious basic reason to poke fun at the term. :)

Why can’t we realize that most people will be in accord with their birth sex, and respect those who don’t feel they are in accord with their birth sex.

The people who fear an "invasion" of gender-neutral people have no need to fear.

We should just respect people's choices, even if we don't agree with them.

Well society is hostile to autistic people and we seem to just accept that as fact. Non-Binaries have to accept that too, being so us men and women are the majority. I've been told many times here that the majority always wins.

I know I'm digging myself a hole here but I'm not trying to offend people, I'm just voicing my views on the matter. I don't have to bow down to everything.

Honestly, I can't see why anybody should be hostile towards non-binary folks----or hostile towards autistic folks, either.
