That's a sphinx, right? It appears in both Egyptian and Greek mythology. 8)

Yes that's right. The latest theory suggest the Sphinx is much older than the Gaza plateau civilisation as water marks on the side of the sphinx suggest it was eroded by heavy rain suggesting it's actually 11,000 years old (a curious coincidence as its a similar age to penis man).

It's not a mainstream theory. It's based on evidence of water erosion. It seems as if the climate of the area was much wetter back 11,000 or so years ago.

The erosion, it is stated, could have happened long before the Sphinx was sculpted.

There are people who state that the Sphinx is actually 800,000 years old!
