Inaccurate article headline. The church is strongly pro-life and would never censor or defrock a priest for pro-life actions. He was defrocked for persistent disobedience. Reading the article, it is clear the priest went to a whole other level, both engaging in activities that most likely proved counter-productive to pro-life goals, and becoming highly political. One cannot fit the Catholic Church ideology into US politics, and trying to do so will always put a priest at odds with one strongly held church belief or another. How we fit our faith into politics is a complicated matter; priests can provide guidance on what to prioritize, but going into candidate choices or anything beyond that creates conflict with the membership a priest is supposed to be helping. This is about failure to listen to the church leadership.
