I personally feel like the "strengths" of autism are mostly just a media image and not grounded in my own reality. Autism makes my life much more difficult and I don't have much help from any unusual skills in real life (possibly because real life isn't built around people like us). Learning more about the condition has helped me accept it, but I'm pretty sure I could've had a much more balanced and happy life had I been born without it.

Put simply, my "islands of ability" don't make up for the "ocean of disability" I swim in.
