To all Wrong Planet Christian members, I hope you have a meaningful holy day. I hope the sensory hell of this season is not too bad for you and remember, just a little more than a week to go and it is all over with so hang in there and remember what this real meaning of the day is about. And there is nothing wrong with buying yourself a gift to feed your special interests.

Merry Christmas! (unless you are British, then Happy Christmas!)
I was getting a bit anxious and over whelmed earlier today while wrapping presents. I had an iced tea and that helped.

Merry Christmas!

I'm happy because I have 10 days off work and I needed a break.

No stress here! In fact it will be a break from stress! :)

Seeing family isn't a chore, it's a pleasure. So yeah, I love Christmas. :)

Merry Christmas! I'm keeping it merry, even though the bad weather is keeping my family apart this year.

Happy Holidays!

I mention the term 'Happy' instead of (Merry) - as true happiness must be balanced with a healthy cynicism.

I mention the term 'Holidays' (instaed of Christmas) as we were acquainted with several people of the Jewish faith.

I never grew-up with religion - yet I prefer to indentify with 'Roman Catholic' rather than Christian.

Yet, lately, I've felt it best to take 'Buddhist' advocate - complete with a Bonsai 'holiday-tree' next year!

Malagayang Pasko!

You know your Christmas party went well when the cops show up the next morning . . . for breakfast!

The OP(me) is Jewish is not in favor of generic language like ‘Happy Holidays’ meant not to offend anybody that pleases few. Today is not “the holidays”, it’s Christmas. I see a few messages like “to all my Jewish friends Happy Hanukkah”. I feel much more included by that then “happy holidays”. Maybe it would have been better if I said “to all who celebrate” but most of Christians I have known over the years are unhappy with the secularization of Christmas, that is why I wrote “holy day” not “holiday” and “real meaning” in OP.

Next time I will write “Have a nice December 25”. Not.

We say "Happy Holidays" to one another in my family sometimes, because we have two Christmas birthdays and New Year in addition to Christmas. I know birthdays aren't a holiday, but the schools are closed for a two-week holiday observance so we're really saying "enjoy everything during your school holiday."

Christmas is a twelve-day observance 25 December - 5 January, so "happy holidays" also includes more than Merry Christmas which in my opinion only seems to be about today.

I don't really use the term to be PC.

If I meet a stranger and don't know their religion I usually say Merry Christmas. My thinking is that even if they don't celebrate Christmas, they can still have a merry day on the 25th.

I forgot to mention we consider Boxing Day a holiday, in that we observe it by giving food and gifts to people less fortunate than ourselves. It's also a statutory holiday so it falls under the "happy holidays" umbrella.

I'm not sure if Boxing Day is the same in USA. It seems like it's a big shopping day in America, like Black Friday?
