Just goes to show that people of all walks of life can end up struggling to survive in Canada's ~worst neighbourhood. (by many metrics, but it's Also a vibrant community.)

Also a very good point re-made by that guy from the Last Door recovery centre - gov't rolls out the red carpet and drops $$$$ if you're on death's doorstep, but if you want to live you're practically on your own - or long waiting lists for detox/recovery centres during which time most people relapse and some die.

I've had a bit of a crash course in the neighbourhood and some of the support systems and their flaws over the last several months. It's frustrating because it seems that many people know what better solutions would be, and that government must not be implementing them because they don't want to solve the problems. And thus 10,000+ people are dead and more will follow.

With the $ that gets spent federally, provincially, and municipally on all kinds of things it's completely bs that there's no funding for more detox/treatment centres to meet demands. IMO. Too many people are making too much money with the status quo and don't want things to change. Dealers, gangs, organized crime being at the top of the list. People must be either getting paid, or threatened, to not rock the boat. The whole mess is just sad.
