Tips for beating Spirit Island solo?

Hello WP, those of you who have played the game Spirit Island, I need some help.

So a week ago, I bought the digital version of the game on Steam, none of my friends own the digital version, so I've been playing solo. However, no matter how well I seem to be doing, the colonists always seem to end up winning.

Does anybody have any beginner's advice/tips for beating Spirit Island solo? If so, those would be greatly appreciated.
