...and the difference between Democrats and Republicans.

Do you remember what happened last time Nancy Pelosi was elected Speaker of the House? Of course you don't. It was more a coronation. There was no challenger, and nobody cared about the vote.

Do you know what else happened? It was implied that if she wasn't elected, a Republican, Kevin McCarthy, specifically, would become Speaker. There was zero chance of that actually happening, but the press let you think so. Because you didn't know the procedure to select a Speaker, and they (the press, and the Democratic leadership) found it convenient that you misunderstood the whole thing.

See, there was a movement that wanted the more progressive members of the Democratic House, specifically "the squad", to withhold their support of Nancy Pelosi, unless she agreed to bring Medicare For All to the House floor for a vote. You see, its easy for members to say they support it, but only a vote will show WHO will actually vote for it. Even if a loss is projected, people wanted to know where their representatives stand. They wanted them to vote.

Pelosi said she wouldn't do that. Didn't want to bring it to a vote until she was sure it would pass. But, you see, Nancy Pelosi herself is one of the members people don't think will actually vote for it. We think she's in the pocket of the insurance lobby. We want to see her vote. We wanted "the squad" to force her to show us which side she is actually on.

But Pelosi didn't have to do that. It was implied that if she wasn't Speaker, a Republican might be.

It doesn't work that way. You were lied to.

And that's the difference between Republicans and Democrats. Republicans will drag their own leadership through the mud to extract concessions from them, OR FORCE THEM TO PICK SOMEONE ELSE AS SPEAKER.

The Democrats will not do that. "The squad" got behind Nancy Pelosi. AOC even called her mamma bear.

Pathetic.

Note that at no time in the last few days has it been suggested, by the press or by the Republican leadership, that a Democrat might become speaker if they don't elect McCarthy. It doesn't work that way, and even the Republicans aren't pretending so.
