Annnd we'll probably wipe our own species out long before then.

I have unshakable faith in the darkness of human hearts.

If nothing else:
We might have found another habitable planet by the time the sun expands, so it won't be the end of the world. Well, it'll be the end of this one, but not of that one, so it won't matter so much. But then we've got the Heat Death Of The Universe coming up, so one way or another we're stuffed. Unless the theory about the "cosmic switchback" is right - that time stops at the heat death and goes into reverse, back to the Big Bang and then history repeats itself.

If not nothing else (i.e. global warming or some other such human error gets us first):
By a stroke of luck, my nearest and dearest relatives have all pretty much gone in for a dead end in their family lines. None of the children of me or my wife are likely to have any kids, so as long as there's somewhere reasonably habitable until about 2080, we'll all be extinct by then and the planet's survival won't be a cause for any great concern on my part. My sister's line might not have fizzled out by then, but I barely know her children so it doesn't bother me an awful lot what happens to their kids after my sister has died. I don't think the human race is likely to be eradicated completely for a very long time, so they're in with a chance if they play their cards right.

Finally! Something you and I can agree on.

In the meantime.....even amid this "self-destruction," you have a life to live....

Don't make the moral degradation of the "human race" an excuse for acting like a jerk. Not referring to you in particular. I've seen this happen among people I know.

Don't worry, as I said I don't hate a human as an individual. There are still a few good people in this world I have come to cherish after getting to know them.

It's really the collective of humanity that I hate. I feel that humans do more evil as a collective than they do as individuals. Like a herd of dangerous panicking wildebeest who trample over anything that gets in their path.

All the wildebeests are doing is----trying to get some food.

And like humans the moment something dangerous approaches like a crocodile in the watering hole they panic and run away crushing anything in their way.

This is my metaphor for how dangerous humans can be when they are afraid. Just look at the "War on Terror". Or the "War on Drugs". Or the "Red Scare". Humans (particularly Americans in those examples) behaved irrationally and did things that caused more harm than good because of one crocodile in the watering hole.

Maybe it doesnt make us "evil", but it does make us extremly dangerous under the wrong conditions.
