I woke up this morning thinking about this question.
Provided they see the film as you see it, and in react the same or similar way, then yes. It is just like when one culture experiences a WORD in a very different way than another. Swear words like like that, but other words have different meanings.
For example, I really liked the movie A.I.Artificial Intelligence. I liked it for reasons that went beyond the story as well as the story. A person I worked with saw the movie and had a very different experience. So if someone were to ask him what he could tell about me from the movie, he possibly could only describe it from his point of view.
If I provide a title, and they have not seen the movie, they could tell nothing about me. It would be like a foreign language to them.
Also, returning to the experience aspect. There are movies I like not because they are good or bad, but because of what the movie represents to me. I may like a "bad" film because what the film suggests about the challenges of making a movie more than the movie itself. Sometimes I like a movie because of what I know about the movie, or what I know about an actor in the movie.
Here is an example. I really liked Star Wars, episodes 1 through 3. There are people that seem to loath those films, and they have their reasons. I liked them. It did not bother me that the force was defined in terms of midi-chlorians and that there was a scientific explanation. I almost suggested they could be a religious explanation except they could be measured.
Sorry, it is not the first time I've been told I take the fun out stuff, or that I don't know what I'm talking about. Both are true.
I still liked the question. I would like to think the answer is yes, but I suspect the answer is no. When I die, someone will take the thousand plus titles I own and not give me a second thought. It will be straight to the second hand store, e-bay, or possibly the city dump. That's ok.
