Women want equality.

I think when a woman misbehaves she should sleep on the couch.

Agreed?

I don’t believe chivalry will ever be dead.

Nobody should have to sleep on the couch.

I'm not even sure what the OP is trying to say?

I own my house and I’m sleeping on the couch.

Chivalry is good, but women can be chivalrous too.

Correct me if I’m wrong OP...

He believes we can dispose of the cultural expectation that a man should be chivalrous.

I’m not sure why that means anyone should be sleeping on a sofa. Grow up and settle your disputes in a mature manner. If that is not possible, or one person feels too angry or fearful than sofa sleeping is unlikely to solve the issues.

I am no longer living with my spouse and it’s a huge improvement for my mental, physical, and emotional health.
If there was ever a situation where a sacrifice had to be made I was always the one who had to move where I slept if I wanted any peace. So I did - far away - forever.

We are perfectly amicable and mutually supportive but completely separate. It’s much more balanced now. I feel zero obligation.

Thanks.
It’s been rough with a broken rib.
I can’t tolerate mattresses at all yet.
I get maybe 2.5 hours of sleep / day.

Great post and good for you.

When I cohabitated I don’t recall anyone ever going to the couch but I often chose to sleep in the guest room or one of the kids’ rooms (if they weren’t home). That might have been from arguments sometimes, but most of the time it was for sensory survival.

Yes women can do anything a man can do. But I don't think that's the point the OP is making.

I’m not sure what chivalry has to do with sleeping arrangements. Chivalry means following a religious or moral code. Maybe he’s assuming that men always own the homes (?) and that it’s moral for them to punish women by making them uncomfortable. Frankly, if my partner had that code of ethics I’d be happy to sleep on the couch while looking for a divorce attorney and kicking him out my door.
