Mine has gone up a lot per KwHour due to the price of energy skyrocketing. However, I had a multi-fuel stove fitted over a year ago as I foresaw the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the impact Russian gas scarcity would have on the price of gas and electricity. Our energy supplier estimated our yearly cost would be over £6,000 (gas + electricity) but due to the stove the figure will be nearer to £2,000 per year. We are enduring some hardship though as we've turned off the central heating, electric towel rails, underfloor heating and all the radiators in the rooms we don't use very much. We are now more or less living in the one room with the wood-burner; also using it to boil a kettle and some cooking.

Part of it is being willing to adapt. We wear multiple layers of clothing in the house. In the evening this room with the computer drops down to around 10C. So I just wrap up warmly, sometimes with a coat, scarf and baseball cap. No point heating the room considering the high cost of doing so.

The crew and I pitched to get you this.

It’ll be dropped on your house by Dragon Air sometime later tonight.

That's very kind, but I'm sorted. I hope you were joking, if not can you get dragon air to torch a house for me

I noticed, in Canada, that the electricity bill is called the "hydro" bill.

Yes, because we rely primarily on hydroelectric generators with water from the Great Lakes. It’s pathetic that we have the water and make our own energy but it’s still among the highest prices in the world.

I don’t call it hydro. I call it the Lec bill.

I dream of solar panels.
I have a strong metal roof that’s south facing and a sunny climate.
Wood heat is nice and free, but ash gets everywhere and makes the house dusty.
I am also the chimney sweep so that means climbing up on the roof.
I cut some wood yesterday and my son came over and split some large white oak for me.I’m worthless with a sledge maul.
Now they say possibly a foot of wet heavy snow so maybe power outages.
I still need to bring the wood in the house and put in the rack and fill box on back porch.

Here they cost like $50K to install and the people have to donate most of the power back to Hydro, or pay taxes on it, or something like that. It’s a huge scandal.

The utility companies here have to buy back any extra power.

lives in a modestly insulated 800 sq/ft. tin can partially protected from the elements by a halo of tall evergreens within 3 feet of my tin can in the woods, so my typical winter bill is about $200 by limiting the thermostat to 68F most of the time. in the summer, the a/c seems to be "free" in that the electric bill drops to $50 or so with the a/c units running 24/7.

Up to 120USD per month is electricity alone.
It's higher than rent.

Also I'm not paying for it.
Also it's not me in the house who's consuming it.

I'm not the one with the habit of not closing the television while everyone's asleep, doesn't turn the lights off when not in use, doesn't turn the electric fan off when no one's there and there's nothing to dry, uses like 3 different phones for over 15 hours a day, doing loud audios at least few hours a day...

I did not mention when I posted here before, that my electric and gas are on the same bill. My bill statements aren't electric alone.

That said, earlier today I checked my bill for next month... it's $350. Fml. I might need to break down and put some plastic on my windows. Winter is brutal sometimes.

In all fairness though, my electric is less than $50 and the gas is less than $100. It's mostly service fees and such that I'm paying for. It sucks.

US $40 /mo. in the Winter months. $45/mo. in the hotter months. I'm all electric as far as utilities, but Its a 1-bedroom apartment inside a heated / AC building so My apartment never gets very cold or hot depending on season.

My phone AND Internet access is another $45

Laundry is coin-op so that's an additional expense and a big reason my electric bill is as low as it is.

PMSL How did I not see this? ^
I'll summon the troops.

On a happy note my water bill came in at $490 for the last three months instead of $600-ish.
I suppose that's a win unless you'll need me to spray out the flames.
Or, wash my hair.
