My cousin earlier today was saying to his mom how he has never in his life found a black woman attractive. His mother (my aunt) then warned him not go on about things like “Colour”.

Do you think his mom was right to put him in his place on the subject of ethnicity and dating preferences? From my cousins point of view surely he is entitled to have his own preferences on the type of woman he wants to date.

It is not racist to not be sexually attracted to a certain race (skin colour). It's racist to not want to be friends with people just because of their skin colour, but you can't help who you feel drawn to sexually. Some white people only feel attracted to black people. Some black people feel attracted to other black people and not white people. Some black people only feel attracted to white people. It's not racist. Get over it.

I can’t really understand not finding people of a particular race attractive. Finding someone attractive and being attracted to them are two different things IMO although, in either case, I don’t understand making distinctions based on race.

It doesn’t matter to me. My first boyfriend was black. I would date any person I connect with.

People can have personal tastes of any kind. I pay a lot of attention to man's nose and eyebrows. They are not strictly a race thing but correlated with it.

Maybe I don’t understand because I’m a demisexual. I don’t really experience physical attraction.

Black people are attractive but I've just never found myself sexually attracted to a black man myself, but a good male friend of mine is black. I've never felt sexually attracted to an Asian men either but it doesn't mean to say they're not attractive. I don't feel sexually attracted to thin men either, whichever colour they are. I tend to get more drawn to fatter men. It's no disrespect to thin men though. It's just my personal taste.

If one precludes one’s self from being attracted to a person of a certain race because of false notions pertaining to that race, that’s racism.

If one happens to not be attracted to a certain person of a certain race, that’s not necessarily racism.

Well as far as preferences go, there are people who wouldn't date a certain gender or a certain age group for example, so if it is considered perfectly okay for people to preferences when it comes to age groups or genders, does that mean it's okay to have preferences on race as well?

i really am drawn to dark skin.
