Apple Wallet Info plz!

Hello my tech-savy peeps! I am going to be driving about 9 hours to my oldest daughter's house next week. I'm wondering if it would be better, easier and safer (from skimming and such) to use my apple wallet. Some of my questions are:

1-Is it in fact safer?
2-Can it be used at the gas station?
3-Can I load my driver's license and leave my actual driver's license at home when I drive to the mall to walk? So, I can just take my phone. (The mall is like 5 minutes from my house.)

Thank you all for your info dumps in advance! I''m old and my hubby is even older and we're both out of our elements on this.
