I just watched episode 1 of this BBC series. Well worth a watch:

Seeing autistic people talking and moving on TV made me realise. I think NTs just get confused about us because our faces and bodies move differently to theirs. We appear more stiff and jerky, our faces twist around in odd expressions which don't seem to match our words or feelings. We appear stilted in what we say.

That's all it is, nothing sinister. We can't do anything about this so why should we.

Thanks. I hope to take a good look at that soon. From a brief glance, the ASD people do immediately look like special-needs people, fairly easy to spot. I often notice that with the ones on TV programmes, though not so much in real life. Maybe the ones I've met are milder cases.

Not sure whether Americans here will be able to access the series, as the BBC tends to be restrictive about its content outside of the UK. There are ways round that, but I'd be breaking forum rules to give details.

Is it against forum rules to suggest using a VPN to get past geographic restrictions? I'll report this post and see

Since a VPN is not illegal it would be wrong to suggest one can't be used.
I use one myself, for the odd American news article.

I do think it's the movement and facial expressions which bother NTs. I think we appear calm when we're stressed, funny when we're serious etc. They will have to learn to be more open minded. I cannot change my body language and facial expressions to please them!

Have you watched Murrays story yet ? I was blubbing like a baby after watching that.

Oh that's good. I am always sweet and innocent so it's good to hear my record is unblemished.

I did watch Murray's story. I worked for many years with disabled people like him, so I found it sweet and heart-warming. I wonder why he can't speak. Is it a physical or emotional reason?

I haven't watched episode 2 yet, I need to gather my strength for that.
