Me neither. Dont know any of the quotes from Friends. But at least theyre all inoffensive phrases even to folks who dont know WTF you're saying.

A young lady supervisor in my job - when were done with the worksite - and it was time to clock out...she would go into a 'universal foreign accent' and send us each off with a terse stiff "Tank you. Come again".

It would crack me up.

I didnt even know the specific source of the quote. It was enough to just get the general picture of a character...hard working shop keeping/restaurant running immigrant person thanking you for your business. Learned much later that she was quoting Abu- the south Asian guy in "The Simpsons" who runs the convenience store.

I saw one episode of The Simpsons, in 1990.

WOW!
I dont watch it religiously. But I watch it more often than once every thirty three years.

There is a low level supervisor I work with a lot who is always pulls everyone's leg all of the time.

I keep thinking that SOME day I will put on a DEEP Arnold Schwartznegger voice and say to him "you're funny Anderson. I think that I vill KILL you lahst."

I havent yet had the presence of mind to say it yet though. He would prolly get a kick out of it.

My kids used to watch it so I'm familiar with what it is, but I didn't watch episodes.

I just found out who Arnold S is the other day.

Most of my quotes or catch phrases come from The Flintstones (animated).

So...
you're the world's foremost authority on...the Bronte Sisters, and ...on the Flintstones!

Interesting combination.

Thanks NP. That was sweet of you. ^
I don't feel like an expert on anything anymore.
My brain has gone to mush.

So I have deduced from this thread that it's safer to only use quotes with my husband and daughter who know what I'm talking about. And not use quotes with other people.

One time, what a faux pas I made. I watch Father Ted and there was an episode where they were talking about a boring priest, 'sorry, your voice is so boring that I didn't hear what you said'. I said that to a work colleague and she never spoke to me again. OOPS! So much for thinking everyone watches Father Ted!

Oh really! Now that is interesting. I looked up echolalia and found out what it means, I didn't know before. I've probably got that then.

I reference other things quite often, probably more so than I speak an original thought. I don't do it IRL that often now though precisely because people may not get my references... So I just don't talk much now. lmao

Apparently it's of little use to ask them in advance what they've seen either, as there's a 52% chance they'll lie about it:

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyl ... -weve-seen

That article reminded me why I feel kind of superior to mainstream NTs.

Your posts are a bit much for me Kit, it’s always ‘Feck this’ and ‘Feck that’ – and sometimes you even use the F-word!

Oh yes that annoys me! When I ask people: 'Did you watch XYZ last night?'

9/10 they reply 'I don't watch much TV.' Like showing off.

I didn't ask that. I asked 'did you watch XYZ last night?' Not 'do you watch much TV?'

Oh that article does sum them up. Why do people lie to appear cool or superior? I will never know.

btw I've never seen any of those shows they mention!

I used to work with another Red Dwarf fan. Everyone else would look at us as if we were crazy.

… smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast

… better dead than smeg

So much fun when you meet another believer. haha.

Our daughter used to wonder why me and her dad were always saying 'Inconceivable!' 'Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.'

Then we realised she hadn't seen The Princess Bride. Now she has and she KNOWS.
