As long as I can remember, I've been very static i.e. I often give people and things a mild electric shock when I touch them. I was even told not to touch the card readers in one job I had because I kept shorting them.

I wondered if it's just me or some autism thing and we all do it. :batman:

I'm very static, and I also set off metal detectors.

I installed a central humidifier to the house to help with my staticness. (Staticnocity?) (Staticnotism?)

"Electro stasis"?

You should hook yourself up to a generator to harvest it, and reduce your electric bills! :D

The metal thing is because I have a blood disorder which causes me to store too much iron.
It's an actual thing. 8O

I don't know why I'm staticy though.

Gosh how unusual with the blood disorder!

Yes. We are mutants for sure.

I've just always been static, I suppose some days are worse than others but I'm always giving people a shock when I touch them

You have the opposite of anemia?

Never heard of that either.

I guess that would make you ...like a chunk of steel walking around...setting off metal detectors.

But you have a magnetic personality :D !

You didn't make light of it. I was busy eating crumpets. :D

I don't want to derail but since you asked, the weird thing is that most people will read as anaemic on blood tests.
That's because the iron is in their organs instead of floating around in the blood.
The blood count will seem low for iron, and doctors will prescribe iron supplements.
That makes it worse.
It's a vicious circle.

It takes a special blood panel which measures iron in the organs.
Most people aren't offered that test unless they ask for it, even with symptoms.
It's kind of a silent killer for people who don't get diagnosed early enough in life.
It's especially bad for post-menopausal women.
Usually the act of menstruation helps rid the body of excess iron, like a phlebotomy.
(Phlebotomy or bloodletting is the most effective treatment.)

Gosh. Ya learn sumpin every day.

Did you have older relatives that have this? Since its inherited.

Funny how there are some conditions that are still treated by "bloodletting".

Like I learned that they still use "medicinal leeches". The little buggers are still used in modern medicine for certain specialized things like clamping together things from surgery.

Funny how ethnic groups have diseases (American Blacks have sickle cell anemia, Ashkanazi Jews have Tay Sachs, and Celts have this thing you're talking about.

Sorry for more derail KitLily.
I'll use spoilers.

Yeah I've heard they still use leeches in some procedures.
Those doctors from the past knew what they were doing!

When I was in Uni I used to donate blood every two months.
There was a blood donor clinic on campus and for some reason I liked going.

When I finished Uni I stopped donating blood.
Then I had surgical menopause at a young age.
Then I was told I couldn't donate blood anymore for another reason.
All of this built up and caused me to have bad symptoms.
I was finally dx with HC and had to do phlebotomies (not donations).

I make sure not to take Vitamin C or eat food high in Vitamin C.
There's a whole diet of lower-Vitamin C foods that help.
My only vice is occasional orange juice or red meat.
I have to avoid Folic Acid too, so eating is always a puzzle.

Yes this runs on my mother's side of the family.

Experience tells me it's humidity and pressure.

It happens to a certain times of the year, or certain room atmospheric conditions.

I tend to shock others from such particular place than the other way around.

Edna

I think it's correct about the humidity and pressure...but why does that just affect me? I've never been shocked by anyone else, it's always me shocking others. It seems to be me only who gets affected by the static charge :?
