It's one of those cultural social nuance thingies. In the NT world good intentions don't always mean the right thing (not that sending a gift would be wrong, because it is nowhere near wrong, but I'm talking from an NT social viewpoint). I'm sure the guy would be happy to receive a basket of fruit from us, but at the same time he'd probably think ''uh, OK, I'm sure you didn't need to go that far lol''. Like one user said here, it's not exactly an emergency situation. I'm sure he's probably forgotten about it now and moved on. So have we.

You're right Joe. Don't send food to him. That isn't done in Britain except in an emergency. He'll just think you've done something much worse to him and aren't admitting to it.
