Hi everyone, I'm new here and thought I'd say hello. I found out about Wrong Planet by reading the excellent book Neurotribes. I'm a 56 year old Professor of Music from the UK, who was awarded an ASD diagnosis in December 2022, and although very proud of the honour, is slowly getting used to it. I'm a musician, composer, researcher, writer. I'm looking forward to starting to do research into music and neurodiversity (not music therapy - nothing against music therapy but more music as stimming, autistic music, autistic musicians, music as autism, neurodiverse pattern based music, that kind of thing).

I'm part of a small community of neurodiverse people on Facebook, and was glad to discover this planet of existence. I'm too recently diagnosed to be able to call myself Aspergers apparently, but I'm at that end of the spectrum. Hello to everyone here, I look forward to virtually getting to know you.

I can understand your desire to be precise.

Asperger's was first added to the DSM in DSM-IV in 1994 but then in 2013 DSM-5 rolled it under Autism Spectrum Disorder. However, even though I was only diagnosed in 2019 and so did not get an official Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis, my written psychological evaluation included the observation that I also met the criteria previously associated with Asperger's Syndrome—and that's good enough for me! In unofficial settings I consider myself to be an "Aspie". (In official settings I would cite my official diagnosis: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1 (Mild).)

Wonderful! We would like to produce an overture to signify welcome but since we don't have one, may a plain ol' welcome suffice. I am certain numerous musicians are on the spectrum, as well as many of the classical composers who lived at a time such things weren't possible to diagnose.
