Legislation backed by Chuck Schumer, the Senate majority leader, would create a review board to declassify documents related to unidentified aerial phenomena across the government.

Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the senate majority leader, is pushing legislation to create a commission with broad authority to declassify government documents about U.F.O.s and extraterrestrial matters, in an attempt to force the government to share all that it knows about unidentified phenomena.

The measure offers the possibility of pushing back against the conspiracy theories that surround discussions of U.F.O.s and fears that the government is hiding critical information from the public.

We certainly live in historic exciting times

I realise this doesn't excite anyone here but there is bipartisan support for this bill coming from senators far afield on the political spectrum (a rare thing in US politics)

This is not just Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat and Senator Mike Rounds, a Republican

The process started with former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who more than a decade ago pushed funding for the Pentagon’s secret Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.

The current amendment has the support of Sens. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) — the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee — Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.).

I should point out that Marco Rubio has designs on the republican leadership and ultimately the presidency. If there wasn't something tangible known to be covered up by the government (not unlike Trump's criminal activities) then I doubt Rubio would stake his reputation on this issue.

I find it interesting at least, that said I think a lot of what will be found is various UFO's have an explanation outside of extraterrestrial activity. Id like to see if there is an explanation for the weird commet like UFO's I saw over denver years ago.

JFK docs were also supposed to be released, and weren't. Not hopeful.

Well its happening folks!

The House Oversight Committee will soon hold a hearing on UFOs, and its a republican leading the charge.

Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee said the GOP-led committee is not ready to publicly announce a hearing date, but added that he expected it to take place “towards the end of this month.”

Burchett has claimed that a number of the witnesses have received threats from the Pentagon so the immunity offered by the House investigative committee will be necessary for these witnesses (made of air force pilots) to speak.

Same. I know what I saw back in 1976-78 wasn't a figment of my imagination.

There was good and bad

Good - it will be impossible now for US intelligence, military and other agencies like NASA to return to claims UFOs/UAPs are due to swamp gas, tricks of temperature inversions, satellites, planet venus and ice crystals or aeroplanes.

bad - despite congress admitting that expert advice points to the objects being real and unlikely to be man-made, intelligence agencies have put blocks against further witnesses testifying and congress from declassifying files they have in their possession. There is quite literally a Mexican standoff between congress and intelligence agencies (NSA and CIA) and I'm afraid at this stage national security might keep these files locked.
