I was searching the "interweb" for online dating sites and apserger's, and I came across this site. It was a mildly interesting read about an adult aspie woman's take on love and life until I got midway through, and read this:

Quote:
"Almost by definition, an Asperger's person would not form an intimate relationship, get married and have children," says research scientist Katherine Tsatsanis of the Yale Developmental Disabilities Clinic. "They don't form connections. The desire, the drive and the social knowledge is lacking."

Now, normally, I'm no activist, and could give a crap less what people think, but this pissed me off. How well educated on the topic can this expert be if this is her conception?

I just noticed that thread after I posted this. Glad to see I'm not alone in my contempt.

That's the biggest pile of bull I've ever read.
Guess we're more misunderstood than I thought!

Jeez man... an 'expert' made this claim? Is this a case of 'researched all about the condition, but have never come across any aspies at all?'
Now, I'm certainly NOT an 'expert' on dating. ;) (see what I did there? lol)
But after just 1 year of self improvement, I've done an ok job with relationships thus far. 1 bit of proof that we do have the requirements for this stuff.

And I know for darn sure that there are aspies in this world who have married. How hard can it be for an 'expert' to find evidence of that?

Baffles me as to how some people claim the title of expert. :?

They probably work for people with learning difficulties and see a few aspies so come to the conclusion that asperger syndrome is a learning difficulty. I know this is the case a caseworker that I see once in a while. She has seen a few aspie in her time and I am not stereotypical aspie and I probably do not have aspergers. Even after the London get-together, I still think I am a pure stereotypical aspie, minus the love of Star wars and science fiction.
