It is important especially for a dude to have a job when dating, due to traditional gender roles and their prevalence in people's minds, even today.

I have heard a lot of people refer to unemployed males as 'bums' or 'losers', because they don't have a job, so you'd be best off sorting your unemployment out before expecting any change in your dating luck, I think.

Unemployed women don't get that bias if there jobless. Double standards

That’s not true. A guy I dated once was very condescending towards me because of my poverty.

Even fewer of them (~0) are interested in gaining a dependent though.

^ I'll add to my previous post, that during periods of stable employment that have lasted several years that I have had, I have had more romantic interest during those periods, coincidentally.

Yes they do. Unemployed adults face that bias regardless of the gender of the partner they'd prefer.

I'm not picking on you.

I have been through different periods of unemployment and currently don't have a job, so if I were calling you a bum, it would also apply to me.

I'm just referring to what a lot of people think in general, in society. It's not my view personally.

In my experience, people from marginalized groups, who find employment to have more barriers than other groups, are typically more understanding of an unemployed 'situation'.

I would personally focus any of your dating efforts on dating disabled women, Jamesy.

Or they don't want to have to support people who they feel should have their own income. Someone else's lack of employment isn't their problem, so why would they wish to make it their problem?

There's a social stigma regarding employed people dating unemployed people, as well as any financial considerations.

I'll bet you that not many people want to say to their friends:

"My boyfriend is unemployed."

Or, "my girlfriend is unemployed."

If someone is on disability, I consider that an income.

It is, barely. It's well below the cost of living and it's childish to begrudge others for not wanting to subsidize their partner's unlivable income.

Yeah, disability income is a bit like pocket money to some people, especially as one goes higher up the income ladder.

As long as it’s legal, people are free to date or not date whoever they want to. Suggesting otherwise sounds a bit like entitlement.

100%. Fair isn't a consideration so there's no point whining about someone's dating preferences being unfair or unreasonable. If they're unfair, tough s**t. If they're unreasonable, eventually that will catch up to the other person and leave them needing to reconsider those preferences.

There's no appeals process nor should there be.

I wouldn’t want to date someone who wouldn’t want to date me because I was poor (unattractive, overweight, liberal, autistic, an atheist, or whatever else) and especially not if they considered me a “bum.” It’s nothing against those people. They can have whatever preferences they like. We just wouldn’t be compatible.

He didn't want to have to explain he meant soccer instead of gridiron repeatedly.
