32 and may be autistic???
It has come to my attention that I display many attributes of an autistic person. I've taken a couple tests that support that possibility. I've always been different than everyone else - I don't see the world in the same way and I have trouble making connections with people. I literally have no friends, although ironically I'm married with children. I have social anxiety that used to be quite severe, but I've learned to deal with it better (small talk, body language). I get obsessive about things (my thing is writing but I've gotten obsessed with actors -like watching all the movies they're in or TV shows, knitting, drawing, photography) But now I'm wondering if this is my explanation. I always just thought it was because I was introverted but maybe it's more than that. Has anyone had similar revelations? I can't afford to see someone and honestly I don't see how that would help. But the logic of an autistic mind seems akin to me and makes more sense than any other "normal" person ever has.
You may learn some things on this forum to reduce the stress of being autistic in a neurotypical world.
For instance, many here have issues with loud noises at movies and concerts.
I bought high fidelity earphones used by musicians to protect their hearing.
An expensive diagnosis is unlikely to be of much benefit besides having a expert say what he thinks you have.
In Connecticut diagnosis are for kids who need assistance. Adults don't get access to the help available to kids.
its a lot to sort and there is no time limit on making a decision! Learn all you can and ask loads of questions in groups and forums like this, there are lots of experienced members with good insights and suggestions. Glad you are here!

An online group might be more your thing. I think there's nothing that settles the question faster than hanging out with autistic folks as to whether it's just a few traits, or something that warrants more work.
There's certainly other possibilities, but interacting with the community should help clarify things.

Welcome to WP! I hope you decide you like it here.
And I'll note that you do not have to be a diagnosed Autistic to be welcome here. You do not have to be a suspected Autistic. You can even be certain you are not an Autistic and still be welcome. An interest in the topic is a good enough reason to be here.
But, since you have some attributes of Autism it is very reasonable to be interested in learning more.
Besides the many sites describing Autism, I hope you have found online tests. Two such tests are:
- AQ
- Aspie Quiz Registering is optional!
(It was AQ that convinced me I wasn't imagining things and convinced me to seek a formal diagnosis.)
There are at least two possible complications:
(1) It is possible to have some Autism attributes but too few to meet the criteria for the diagnosis.
(2) Many of the attributes of Autism are not unique to Autism. That is, they might be associated with some diagnosis other than Autism.
Good luck! And, in any event, welcome to WP!
