I tried to reality shift, but I burned out the clutch.

Sweetleaf you are correct, I did mean controlled lucid dreaming. Through some research into lucid dreaming and reality shifting, I've found that all reality shifting methods are simply lucid dreaming methods with a slight difference. For me, these slight changes simply did something strange: it shaped my dream before it started. Basically, I tried a method, and when I woke up, it was clear that is was a lucid dream, thanks to reality checks, but I had immediately appeared where I had been imagining! Since, I have managed to do the same with different scenes, leading me to conclude reality shifting is just lucid dreaming, but with a slight difference that helps control the dream.

Old_comedywriter, despite reality shifting being lucid dreaming, it requires a lot more skill and concentration then lucid dreaming, as you're shaping your dream before it happens. I would recommend trying lucid dreaming first, get a bit of skill at that, than come back to controlled lucid dreaming (aka reality shifting) at a later time.

But what does it accomplish?  What practical use does it have?

I could do so to an extent, but I still don't know why.

And I'm holding something up.
As I mentioned elsewhere; if I want to fly, I can only jump and glide, struggling to stay above ground.
If I want a waterfall, I'd get a fountain instead, if I want a castle, I'd get a loft instead.

To me it implies that I don't have a reason to go all out in life. At all.
Like I'm not trying, or do not have a reason to.

That in my waking life, I don't care enough and not even boredom can make me go all out. Not even the things I can agree or disagree on.

And I don't know exactly what holds me back.
The common accusation would be wanting everything easy, but that might be it since I tend to dodge common and known pitfalls as much as possible without doing the same in my daily living and everything else.

Also on top of years of disappointments.
Wanting to be open and rid of expectations, but unable to strike a precise balance or actual expectation without attachment-- it's either true apathy or distressing disappointment.

And I hate being disappointed...

The nuisance of emotional processing, for one. A DIY therapy so to speak.

A way of loosening whatever holds him back emotionally and mentally, or boosting something in him.

And unlike spending waking hours in entertainment as a way to cope, this also implies control in the subconscious and spend it on sleeping times.

Because not everyone is a resilient stoic realist person who can handle all that stress in life and being disliked by their family. :?

Well, think about it. First, there's the obvious one, which would be just for fun. But then there's the practical uses. Lucid dreaming happens in your subconscious, so since you're subconcios has every memory of your life tucked away, you can use lucid dreaming, recreate a scene where something bad happened to you, such as an argument with someone, and try it again to see what you could've changed. It won't change real life, but you'll know what to do next time. In fact, since you remember everything in a lucid dream, you can basically do anything you have before, over again to try to get better at it. Sure, you can't go to the gym and get stronger in your dream, but you could practice building a birdhouse, and then be just a tiny but better than you were before. It's a dream, where you can quite literally do anything, limited by only you're imagination. What isn't a use of it?

That almost makes sense.

However, it may be fair to remind you of an old truism: "The patient who treats himself has a fool for a doctor."

(Yes, I know the original truism referred to people who acted as their own legal counsel.)

Well, the OP is still only a kid, so maybe me expecting more adult behavior from him is unrealistic.

The statement would've worked if we're talking about serious mental illness and distress instead of aiding your everyday emotional processes with something that can be done for fun. :o

There's no self assessment and diagnosis going on here. Nor any medical advice involved.

By DIY therapy, it could mean from self care and self help that any layperson could perform including your everyday fun stuff -- instead of, say, stuff that only professionals could do; like assessing learning disorders or quelling delusions or suicidal tendencies by therapy and psych meds...

At that age, people are adjusting indeed.

At that age (13) I barely have enough language comprehension and stability to communicate coherently enough online.

True. For me, I'm pretty much just bored in life. I'm homeschooled 24/7 and my brother is fully autistic, so he doesn't understand stuff like video games. My mom hates all my favorite video games and won't buy them. My dad doesn't like video games. All I have to do is read and play Mario kart. I think reality shifting would be interesting, because every night when I go to sleep, I can just play minecraft all night. I've been doing it my entire life, reality shifting is just a way to control the curse/gift of lucid dreaming every night.

Very possibly you might reconsider the Truisms you , maintain those opinions on.
Available knowledge base for healthcare is now far beyond what the AMA will recognize at this point in time.
Having repeatedly seen ( So Called) Alternative medicine practices cure people that were given up on .
Information and experience provided through Preventative Healthcare practicioners. If needed ,PM for additional Info.

And legally Have Successfully defended others in cases against People who, brought their lawyers against them.
And many many times on my own behalf . (And have usually not gone out of my way to try to engage any of these
cases against myself ).Usually. only losing a few cases ,when , I was not allowed any considerations for my serious symptomatic conditions of ill health . Even during on one occassion, going through a meltdown . During which the court recorder and the judge attempted 5 time to repeat my plea to be recorded as guilty  . Which each time as I was losing ability to function...repeated my correct plea for the records.Which was NOT my plea! 8O Be aware if you ever try these things be very prepared before you do. And pay strict attention to the words used .Often even your Lawyer you get will attempt a plea bargain on your behalf , even when it is not warranted. Just to be expediant. And have a fast turn over of clients, and take your money. :skull: (Just My Experiences).

Jakki, I'm confused. What does that have to do with the subject?

i believe that in that collection of nested quotes, she was replying mostly to Fnord's comment about a patient treating oneself.

I see, its fine to reply to a current post, I just didn't understand practically half the words, and couldn't tell if it was on topic.

Vocabulary ( different words and their use ) Is something , I do care to be good at. But because the people , I spend most of my time with ,also have Large vocabularies .
And generally have very few chances to talk with Younger people / Adults . And Am not wanting to appear to talk down to anyone.
