Reality shifting is a pretty broad topic, but here's the basic run down. Many people (myself included) believe by using the quantom theorie that there are infinite parrarel universes, they can basically shift their counsiosness into one of those realities, using visualization or (best for beginners) writing a script. It technically isn't scientifically proven, but the sheer number of success stories, and the fact I've only found a few fail stories in my opinion proves its existence.

Reality shifting is a pseudoscience, described as the process of moving one's consciousness from one's current reality (CR) to one's desired reality (DR).

This all sounds pretty harmless, but reality shifting is not entirely innocuous.  The online reality shifting community tends to lure vulnerable people into their beliefs with cult-like and glamorizing tactics.  In the end, it is more likely to encourage dangerous habits of dissociation and avoiding reality in these vulnerable people, preventing them from getting the help that they actually need.

• • •

All "proof" of reality shifting that has ever been presented is completely worthless, as it consists solely of anecdotal evidence that can't be proven.  The entire phenomenon is untestable; convenient escape hatches of "oh, the experience is different for everyone" and "maybe you just need more practice" are used by reality shifters when they are confronted with counter-arguments.

• • •

Reality shifting promotes the idea that dissociating oneself from the real world is both cool and beneficial.  It may lead some people to genuinely believe that they can just simply run away to their desired reality and leave their current reality behind; that is not how the world works.  It's a trend that preys on young people and the mentally ill, who are seeking ways to get rid of the pain they face in their life; a simple look through reality shifting communities allows you to see that some shifters simply want to escape their current reality due to abuse and/or trauma.

Fnord, that is some honestly good points, but honestly, I gotta admit, a lot of things are proven by nothing other than say-so. There are so many people that believe things like superstitions(such as don't step on the cracks) throughout there entire life. Honestly, reality shifting was just something that caught my eye. Interestingly enough, your abovementioned points, don't entirely apply to me. My first article was actually while looking for something completely unrelated, and was actually one of the rare negative articles against l reality shifting. The second, basically described it as a huge lengthy process that takes years (although turns out the guy had never even tried it onces) so really, I have plenty of reason to give it a try, and I've always been the kind of person to try new things before discrediting them. Honestly, I don't really NEED reality shifting, because I already naturally lucid dream almost every night, which already gives me 2 hours of free time every night. Reality shifting is just one of rmthose things you see that is completely pointless (at least for me) but you have to try anyways.

Fnord, I would also like to say that interestingly, most methods of reality shifting, if they don't worm they enhance lucid dreams. This is also extremely helpful for me, considering how many lucid dreams I have. They tend to make lucid dreams more vivid and controllable, so I think its honestly worth giving it a try, because even if it doesn't work, theres still lucid dreaming.

If I was going to do something like this, I would rather try straightforward meditation in this reality.

There are so many wonderful experiences in this world that we miss, as we go about our busy lives. I think there’s really no need to go to Harry Potter land. We already live in a fascinating enough reality, if you start looking closely.

this is another strong case, but for me, sure I enjoy this reality, but I still wonder what it would be like to use magic, e meet Fire star in warrior cats. Its one thing to read it, its something else to experience it. I doubt I would ever stay permanently, I like this universe a little too much for that, but Im still going to try to MAKE my dreams come true, because what you're not looking for, rarely finds you on its own.

Speaking from experience, pot won't cause reality shifts but a very large dose of dextromethorphan will.

I would rather live in warrior cats for eternity, than live here.

I'm sorry for your loss. Ultimately though, you will eventually have to deal with it. Denial and avoidance are a common part of the process, so I see no particular reason why this would be more or less useful than other things people do to numb out for a bit. It's also probably not more or less harmful either.

It's arguably more accurate to refer to this as perspective shifting as the reality we typically know is the result of our perspective more than anything else and there may not even be an objective reality to shift.

And yes, it definitely can be done, but there are limits. It's not going to bring people back from the dead, although if they were never close to you, it can be as if they never died. That whole bit about Elvis or Tupac being alive in hiding somewhere speaks to that. These are not individuals that most of us ever met, and even for most people that did, they weren't a regular fixture of their lives. So, as a practical reality, there's not much difference between them being dead versus retired and not touring or producing more music.

More double-talk.

Look kid, I was in the flim-flam business myself, so I know all the tricks, one of which is to keep repeating the same lies over and over again until someone believes them.

All your so-called "Reality-Shifting" might be more accurately labelled as "Fantasy-Shifting", since it all occurs in your head.

Nice of you to share your fantasy, though; but the utter lack of valid empirical evidence renders it all irrelevant.

Fnord. Fun fact here. I. Haven't. Even. Tried it. I didn't start this thread to convince people to reality shift. I started it for two reasons: I wanted to hear other peoples ideas, and hear what other people thought. Of course there's no evidence of it. There rarely is, because scientists rarely care. You'll notice, I've never directly denied any posts, because this is an open thread. I want ideas, experiences, the whole nine yards. I'm fine with you posting here, but keep your posts on topic. Its one thing to argue against reality shifting. That's fine. But your last post, came THIS CLOSE, to basically calling me a scammer or a liar.

there could well be, in my view- different ways to possibly shift one's reality, not referring at all to anything like horatio alger, but through a conscious and sustained effort to shift the trajectory of one's life in some minor doable way, such as in my own case when another WPer poked at me and persuaded me to give the conjugal thing another try, with much better results this time. i was prepared to die alone and moldering in my tin can out in the woods but was persuaded to travel to meet this person who turned out to be much more on my wavelength than i could have expected based on my history, which resulted in my life doing a 180-degree change in direction. in another type of case, a reality shift could and has been said to occur by parapsychologist brian weiss with his "superconscious mind tap technique" (and other hypnotists also) of choosing different dimensions of ones superconscious mind/reality to swap with. i don't know how he does it, i've never been able to be hypnotised, but he gives a convincing impression in his books that he has transferable expertise in this area.

Another fun fact, lucid dreaming is scientifically proven.

case study wrote:
Another group of scientists tried to go further and establish complex two-way communication during dreams, using flashing lights, sound, and asking questions. They recruited 36 volunteers, including some experienced lucid dreamers and others who had never experienced a lucid dream before but remembered at least one dream a week. The researchers first trained participants to recognize when they were dreaming, by explaining how lucid dreaming works and demonstrating the cues they would present while dreamers slept. The idea was those cues would signal to participants that they were dreaming. Sleepers were told to signal they had entered a lucid dream and answer questions by moving their eyes and faces in particular ways.

As the participants fell asleep, the scientists monitored their brain activity, eye movement, and facial muscle contractions, with electroencephalogram helmets. Researchers asked the dreamers simple yes or no questions or math problems, like eight minus six. To answer, dreamers used the signals they had been taught before falling asleep, or even moved their eyes in patterns that matched Morse code.

What is interesting is that some remembered the experiment’s questions being integrated as part of a dream. One dreamer reported the math problems coming out of a car radio. Another was at a party when he heard the researcher interrupting his dream, like a narrator in a movie. The researchers say their numbers show that communication, even if difficult, is possible across the consciousness border

When I clicked on this topic I was frankly expecting a discussion of the Mandela Effect, when a bunch of people swear they remember a certain thing a certain way, but it's another way now. It is as if someone traveled into the past and tampered with the reality.

But.

What you have actually posted is quite troubling. What you're suggesting is entering a state of psychosis and mentally breaking clean from the reality around you.

No, I'd be saying they're suffering from psychosis, which is not the same as 'being a psycho' which is usually used as shorthand for 'being psychopathic'.

If someone is no longer connected to reality, that's usually synonymous with suffering from psychotic delusions. If one is 'shifting realities', unless they return to this one, it would sound as though they're in an ongoing state of being disconnected from reality. How else would you describe that?

This.

It's really too bad, because a discussion of the Mandela Effect, and examples you yourself encountered would have been a whole lot more interesting (and healthy).
