A lot of the posts seem to imply that you would use reality shifting to never come back, or avoid your problems. That's not why I'm interested in it. I've heard stories of people using it to jump out of awkward situations, I simply wonder what it would be like to meet Harry Potter. I wouldn't say, reality shift when I get in trouble so I don't have to deal with it, instead I would do it at night while I'm sleeping. This is especially convenient for me because I constantly lucid dream naturally, so even if it doesn't work, I can still use lucid dreaming to envision meeting Harry Potter.

I encountered the Mandela Effect a few times.
And I'm sure that's not "intentional". Also my doubts are quite high since my memory isn't very reliable...

But sure.
The closest thing I get is a shift of vibe within me.

The prerequisite is simply discernment and being able to summon and sustain certain emotions and states. Healing and health, and resolving root causes (physical or mental or otherwise) would either help or make it easier to do.

The subconscious programing is where you can make it more permanent.
Anything else is just some sort of randomness within me that either I've yet to learn how to control or understand.

In which people can change the way they treat and perceive me, the way I see and interpret things around me, how I sustain certain priorities and it's solutions to get there, and how I feel about anything then in turn the way I act/talk/etc. and in full circle, how others could see it and therefore how they treat and perceive me...

When self sustained and perpetuated, also if when well managed, it can become exponential.
The same with being 'negative'...
Mine doesn't sustain for too long because my sleep and whatever any health issues or internal distractions I cannot resolve kept interrupting all of that.

There's nothing meta physical or physics breaking about that. It's just psychology.

I don't have a ritual or a method. I myself am flying on blind and luck. Also I'm a pessimist.
And I just happened to be plenty of lucky... Or believe deeply enough that I am; and it sure heck helped that there are external and cultural affirmations towards me in such statement.

If I may, I think that the OP has simply been misunderstood.

What the OP wants to engage in (from my understanding) is a lot closer to controlled lucid dreaming. Which, yeah, I was the same! I struggled to understand my emotions and would often use creative methods to figure them out.

The OP is not suffering from psychosis. Nor is he promoting it. At least, not intentionally. Reality shifting as a whole can be rather dubious and potentially dangerous, but based on what the OP later described (meeting fictional characters at night whilst lucid dreaming) he simply meant a subset of a lucid dream rather than reality shifting.

One could argue that it could be considered a form of fanfiction, a type that is simply never recorded. Purely for your own entertainment and / or to work through something emotionally in an indirect way.

Personally, when I was going through something, I liked to imagine setting Chucky from Child's play on fire. I knew this was not real but it was more about what Chucky represented to me. Indirect fears being visualised. A bit like writing in a journal. It was therapeutic in a way.

Self-insert fanfiction is very popular. 'What would it be like if I met this character?' It's a fun hypothetical. We know it's not real. It's a bit of escapism. I think that escapism, in moderation, can be a useful tool. Admittedly, some of the characters I create are simply reflections of different aspects of myself. Different fears, hopes and dreams.

Granted, I can't sit here and act like I'm some kind of therapist. Still, I think I understand where the OP is coming from with this one. Or maybe I don't.

I suggest to just consume more said fiction material if you wanna meet them in the dream.

Doesn't matter which or how; but mediums with visuals and visualizations are better.
So movies, videos, comics, drawings, games, roleplay, whether original or fanfiction.
Feeding your subconscious with it's world building.

Which happened to me too many times for years, with various stories that my head used to fixate over fiction as some sort of (unwanted) defense mechanism.
Even if my head's autopilot then was just all consume for the sake of consuming, and no real sentiment or attachment over the stories and characters, what it consume can still reflect my dreams or even thoughts in waking life.

Back then, I was quite a maladaptive daydreamer. And I don't like it.
It would've been a superpower if I was the type who actually enjoy these things like being into fandoms and aspires to be a writer.

But I'm actually neither of those and it's just a defense mechanism since childhood due to emotional family hung ups.
My head likes to be in one of those self-inserts or whatever fantasy; but 'I am' not.

I used to have that internal distraction that stole so much of my attention, mental energy and head space in most of my waking life.

Very much irritable for most of my life and gave me this chronic fiction addiction that I struggled to get rid of until I found it's root cause.

Thus I'm very much over fictionland. I wanna live in this physical reality and actually play with it.

So yeah, one doesn't have to be overly emotional, attached or sentimental about what one would consume when it came to feeding one's dreams.
Repetition of consumption is enough.

But seriously.
Making the real world dreamlike is takes so much work in one's psyche.
And anyone who wanted the reality shifting believed that it's all mantras, visualizations and meditations and all that rituals.

They forget or neglect or even deny the spiritual work, grounding and the psychological aspects required.

I actually don't know how one could or should do it. Only that it's not easy and mostly unsafe for many.

But all I know is that anyone who is not ready enough would end up in psychosis.
Do it badly enough, one may float in delusions and become schizophrenic.

Thus it is, fake or real, very much likely, dangerous.

Nobody on this site has ever misunderstood what other people have posted. /sarc

It wouldn't be the first time, I tend to assume that if things start to feel heated that somebody has misunderstood something critical to the debate and just take a break. I don't think that this thread is at that point, but sometimes taking a few steps back to catch up with what's going on can do everybody a world of good.

Honestly you have a point. Things have been getting kind of heated on here. Particulary between me and fnord.

One of the best lessons I learned about the internet came from XKCD.

https://xkcd.com/386/

At a certain point, everybody involved is so dug in that nobody is going to change their minds, and it doesn't really matter at that point who is and isn't correct. Usually, it's somewhere in between. It's not always easy to actually make use of that awareness, but any time I can, I come out less behind.

I think I'm finally starting to understand what he means now. I tried to do something like this with the idea of me being in a relationship with a certain celebrity. It didn't really work for me since I tend to not remember my dreams. I had a sleep study a couple years ago for sleep apnea & the study showed I have that & I also didn't get a lot of REM sleep.

That's exactly what I was thinking of! That's what reality shifting is! Its just a lucid dream, but by doing things such as thinking what you want to see, for me (since I naturally lucid dream) it makes it so my lucid dream is centered around that.

That Lucid dreaming .. takes practice .. and it is possible to lose the skill , if not paid attn to..as a practice..
But left me with some degree of ability to cause my muscles to totally relax .. but not always resulting in sleep .
Was occassionally anle to use that ability to sometimes , calm down inflammed bits ,when laying down in a quiet peaceful maybe even dark environment . Felt like , being able to put my mind into neutral, as long as my brain was not bothered with triggers. It was a developed skill for me. And helped in some lousey circumstances .
Wish the best on anyone wotking to develop this stuff/ mindsets .

Jakki, I would first try normal lucid dreaming, as it is much easier if you don't already lucid dream. Try controlled lucid dreaming (or reality shifting, whatever you want to call it) after, as it takes much more concentration, especially for beginners.

the closest i've come to semi-lucid dreaming, is willing a dream to continue for a bit longer.

Auntblabby, there are methods you can try, but to do it without some technique, such as (though this is not very effective) simply willing yourself to lucid dream, is surprisingly hard. While I do have frequent lucid dreams, they are rarely very vivid. So I use a technique (called a reality shifting technique, but its the same as a lucid dreaming technique I know, which shows the sameness of the two) that helps make lucid dreams more vivid.

i have tried the various techniques i've read about in many different lucid dreaming books, to no avail, not even close. it makes me think that some power above is blocking me, a higher spiritual power might be thinking i lack sufficient self-discipline/maturity to astrally travel responsibly.

Ok seems like you are talking about lucid dreaming and things like that? I think some people here were thinking you are more thinking of actually entirely breaking from reality which would be concerning. Like recently a cousin of mine was diagnosed with having a psychotic episode but doctors weren't sure if she has schizophrenia or if it was a one off psychotic episode. And like she was totally out of reality and it was me and my boyfriend who pushed her mom to get her some help she wouldn't listen about going to the doctor so we told her mom she should get a welfare check on her. She is doing better now and keeping on her meds because she doesn't want to get like that again.

So like breaking from reality is no joke, but playing around with how to get a lucid dream to work how you want is something different entirely...I myself am kind of interested in that. A reality shift in dreams seems reasonable...but you don't want to block out real life either. Like if you do manage to manifest harry potter to meet him in a lucid dream that will be a feat...but just so long as you don't then think he is real and talk to him when he is not there. Cause yeah before my cousin got taken to a hospital for evaluation she was talking to a turned off T.V as if there were people she could see on there. It was not drugs it was psychosis.
