Not only are there unknown/hidden asteroids in our own solar system, we have no control over what enters our solar system from outside either.

It may fair to say it's unlikely for an earth killing asteroid to strike in the foreseeable future, but the preparation for such an event should be continued based on the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission. Despite positive signs, actual preparedness for a real threat would require years of planning in advance.
