Exactly.
Pepe La Pew was based upon Charles Boyer as the character Pepe La Moco. One of the many parodies of that time.

And here I thought the Casbah was some kind of club, like “Rick’s American Cafe”. You learn something every day.

(Apparently there is now a club and music venue of that name in California - but neither Pepe was talking about that one)

I love misheard lyrics. I have a bunch of these, and I'll have to post them as I think of them.

Well I don't remember the artist, but I recall a song from the 80's I have heard here and there on the radio since I was a kid. And the actual lyric says 'voices carry' but I always thought she was saying 'it's so scary'. So yeah very easy to mishear lyrics.

Also, I do enjoy metal and half the time I don't know what they are saying exactly with the harsh vocals, it can take a few times to catch on without looking up the lyrics. But then a lot of metal bands don't even sing in english, but i kind of like listening to music with foreign(to me) language vocals.

Quote:

[Verse 1]
I'm in the dark, I'd like to read his mind
But I'm frightened of the things I might find
There must be something he's thinking of to tear him away
When I tell him that I'm falling in love, why does he say

[Chorus]
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry

[Verse 2]
I try so hard not to get upset
Because I know all the trouble I'll get
Oh, he tells me tears are something to hide and something to fear
And I try so hard to keep it inside so no one can hear

[Chorus]
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry

[Bridge]
Oh, he wants me
But only part of the time
He wants me
If he can keep me in line

[Chorus]
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry

[Outro]
Oh, hush hush, shut up now
Voices carry
Oh, hush hush, keep it down now
Voices carry
Oh, hush hush, darling, she might overhear
Voices carry
Oh no
Voices carry
Hush hush, he said shut up, he said shut up
Voices carry
Oh God can't you keep it down?
Voices carry
Hush hush
Voices carry
I wish he would let me talk

I spat my coffee! you apologising is more of a shock > Biden withdrawing

I'm actually bad with song titles so no need to apologise. Although I was right and didn't check.

the worst was Helen Reddy's feminist anthem - I actually thought it was "I am woman hear me raw"

There's a Christmas song called "What Child Is This", and there's a line that goes, "Haste, haste to bring Him _laud." I have always thought the word was _love, and I've sang it that way in public. I was singing with a group of carolers when I found out what it's supposed to be. That was embarrassing and also hilarious. During that same caroling session, I heard all the verses of the song "Hark and Herald Angels Sing". I was really confused when I heard the word "guillatine" and trying to figure out how that word got ina Christmas song. That word is actually _deity, which makes way more sense.

From the musical "Simian's Rainbow".

Sung by the hairy simian choral. (There really was a "Harry Simeon Choral" in the Forties).

I've always sung Joy Divisions' "ice age" chorus as
Nothing will hold, nothing will fit
Into the cold, a smile on your lips

Turns out the first chorus should end "it's not an eclipse"
And the second "NO smile on your lips"
