Have you ever been put off any type of food that you once used to regularly eat?

There's been lots of various foods that I quit eating. Some I quit liking simply because I got burnt out on it. Mom kept packing me the same school lunch due to me being a picky eater & there wasn't much else I could bring. Things got kinda soggy & I eventually got sick of it. Mom also says I quit eating some things because she started making me cook them myself due to her wanting me to be more independent & her being tired of cooking special meals for me. My issue was that some things did not turn out well when I tried cooking myself. For example I would cook some things using the oven feature for the toast-R-oven & the top of things would get burnt & the inside would be very soggy even thou I followed the temp directions on the bags. The reason why was because I was putting too much in the pan at once. The amount woulda been fine in a regular oven but the toast-R-oven pan was too small for that amount & I was too dense to figure out that was the problem. I quickly became very discouraged & frustrated after having to throw things away a few times & mom complaining about me wasting food & intentionally screwing it up because I was mad about having to cook it. The reason I was mad was because it didn't turn out right. The good news is I started eating more variety & cooking more things myself after I moved & in with my girlfriend.

I've been vegetarian (except that I eat fish, so pescatarian) for over 25 years and now meat is really gross to me. Even if I accidentally take a bite of some rice that was made with chicken stock, or any dish that has some trace amount of meat in it, I am grossed out by the taste. I can still eat it though if I have to in order to be polite.

Cantaloupes - I had extreme morning sickness with my son for the entire nine months. The worst thing was a cantaloupe my husband had brought home in a clear produce bag. The thought and smell of it was so awful I vomited for days even without eating any. I pictured it going all slimy inside. I still can't eat them even though I liked them just fine prior to pregnancy.

Corn on the cob - We were at my auntie's and she served it. I discovered a little worm crawling out of my piece. I freaked the F out because I have a phobia of those things. I got in big trouble for crying and being rude. My auntie pulled the ______ out of the corn and told me to eat the corn. I can't remember if I did eat it or not, but I developed a major trauma from the fear and pressure. Somehow I started eating it again as an adult but I'm still pretty cautious every time.

Lime - The only time I had a true stomach flu (influenza) was right after eating some Tostitos which were lime flavoured. Then the flu kicked in and I puked my guts out for a week. It wasn't because of the Tostitos or the lime taste, but I associated the two and I still want to die if I taste lime.

I didn't eat chicken for a long time because I read there was an acceptable number of maggots allowed in processed chicken.
I eat it now and try my best not to think of maggots.

JFC Why did you tell me that.

Earlier today I remembered a time when my husband and I had gone away for the weekend during summer. When we came home the kitchen was crawling with maggots falling from the ceiling. They were everywhere. They came from a bread or cracker product in the pantry.

Also, I hate chicken. OMG why did you tell me that.

Flour has an acceptable amount of insect parts and rodent s**t.

Now, what's the problem with chicken again?

Baked beans. I always hated them but one of the schools i went to forced children to eat lunch and they regularly served baked beans with something called 'cheese pie' that was a sort of mashed potato with cheese baked into it. Anyway it was disgusting and they forced you to eat it. I can remember then standing over me while i spooned it into my mouth and trying not to throw up.

Baked beans are kind of meh, I can totally see that happening to me though.

Overally picky eating is one aspie trait I don't have.

However, Bananas are disgusting to me.

I don't drink apple juice. Someone joked about it looking like pee when I was little and I just kinda soured on it.

I really like baked beans but I quit eating them about half a year ago because they started upsetting my stomach & making me go to the bathroom a lot. Very oddly I also started noticing that with various rice meals but not quite as severe. It's very weird because I can majorly pig out on things like ice-cream, pizza, hot wings, fried food, fast food, chips, candy, or cake & my stomach will be fine after. I haven't ate rice much in a long time but my stomach has been OK when I did so I'm considering trying to eat rice more regularly.

My mother is NT, but as a kid she could not stand carrots and would get sick whenever she ate them. But my grandmother would make her eat them anyway. She said that because of this she didn't want to force my brother and me to eat anything we really hated. She wanted our meals together to be peaceful and enjoyable.

But my brother would eat just about anything put in front of him. Me, I was a lot more fussy. Especially when it came to anything fish or fish-related. I won't touch fish now if I can help it. It's full of mercury, anyway. You can get parasites from certain kinds of fish because they're apex predators, especially if they're not cooked properly. When I was a kid I heard about tainted tuna on the news for what seemed like months and months, and it was scary.

And yes, I know many food products may have come into contact with fish or shellfish. Just like they may have come into contact with nuts, wheat, eggs, dairy, soy, water, and oxygen. But I don't have food allergies so it's not a big deal.

Anything that looks, smells, tastes or feels like peas should be banished from the earth.
