Everything wrong with the original film Twister
Last night, I streamed Twister and I used to be so naive watching this back when I was a teen. As an adult, I now recognize everything that is wrong with that movie.
1. No one in their right mind would attempt to hold a cellar door closed if it's an EF-5 tornado
2. Jo and her storm-chasing team seem to be very experienced
3. Jo and her storm-chasing team seem to act more like friends going out on a weekend rather than a team conducting research from a university
4. During the first attempt to chase the first Tornado, Jo and Bill seek shelter under a poor bridge
A. In real life they would lie flat in that ditch
B. They would have been picked up and thrown along with her truck
5. When her truck lands in front of Jami Gertz's character, Phillip Seymour-Hoffman's character seems to lack empathy
A. The writers made it seem like something was wrong with Jami Gertz's character when the truck lands in front of her. In reality, anyone would have been scared.
6. Jo's truck is lying on the ground
A. She didn't radio the proper university department for roadside assistance
B. She didn't wait for a tow truck
C. She kept chasing Tornados
7. Jo and Bill acted very unprofessionally
8. The movie makes it sound like tornadoes can be seen at a certain time and place ahead of time
9. They always get too close to the funnels
10. They always have lots of debris flying around but no one gets hurt
There are more examples about how unrealistic Twister is

I enjoyed your list. After the third thing, I started thinking, "Who was responsible for this decision?"
First thought, the writer(s). 5.A says as much.
Then the director.
If the actors brought up issues, would they have been fired? It probably would depend on the director, maybe (???).
Regardless, thank you for your observations and thoughts.
It has been a few years since I have seen the film.

People really should not believe anything they see in the movies, and not just the stuff that's obviously not real, like hobbits or superheroes. But sadly, most people do. In some cultures, Hollywood movies and TV are about the only source of "information" people have about other countries. Then they come to North America and wonder why they don't see a ten-minute long car chase that involves smashing through a sheet of glass two people were carrying or plowing though a produce stand. And then there's the less funny stuff.
Here are some more examples
1. Before that tornado devastates that drive-in and the body shop, the lightning is intense
A. No one would be sitting in their cars
B. The staff would have shut down the movie due to the risk of bad weather
2. Jami Gertz's character is a therapist and talks to her clients about their issues
A. No real therapist would talk on the phone with clients in front of other people
3. The storm-chasing team nearly gets into an accident with the other competing team
A. While Carry Elwes was a jerk, he made a good point that the behavior of the team was wreckless
Twister is an action comedy about a group of storm chasers work at a university. Their goal is to place a prototype into a tornado and read the activity that goes on inside. However, the movie is very unrealistic and for the most part stupid.

Yesterday, I listened to a podcast called Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone. It was mostly about the move Twister and whether anyone should go see the new movie, Twisters.
Paula is a comedian, so her humor is subjective. I enjoy her.

Ah. Ok.

These movies are entertainment not documentaries. Be it about autism or meteorology if it is done well these movies will have just enough truth to be somewhat believable to the viewer with a casual knowledge about the subject. Experts are frustrated. Sometimes they are pretty accurate but that is not the norm.
The worst I have seen in a weather porn film was in a TV movie years back when they had a hurricane hitting Chicago from the north.

I rewatched it last night for the first time since I watched it on video a year after it came out. I had forgotten most of it.
Decent popcorn movie. You have to go into it with the understanding that it is a popcorn movie. Probably the same with the sequel.

I actually wrote that without thinking. However, it would most likely be storm depression. Also, the waters would have to be pretty warm in Canada in order for there to be a hurricane at all.
