Who would you say was a good example of a respectable pillock? Those people that society needs who do their jobs quietly without fuss... The ones we need as without them we'd be lost!

Sure you don't mean "respectable PILLAR of society"? To me a "respectable pillock of society" would be someone like former government minister Chris Grayling: status, power and an absolute inability to do his job.

Thank you!

Was scratching my head.

Being a Yank I never heard of a "pillock" before. But have heard of "pillars of society".

Had to google it just now to learn what it meant. Apparently a "pillock" is a "silly stupid person", or a "dolt".

But yeah...the OP does open the door to all kinds of possible deliberate puns.

Respectable pillocks?:

The nonrespectable kind?:

Construction workers. Mick Avory started out as a construction worker so I have a great deal of respect for them.

Yes. Pillars. That is the word.

I had to google the world pillock, and learned it's British slang for a stupid person.

I guess I'm a pillock for not knowing what it meant, even though I live halfway about across the world and the word doesn't come up very often in conversation around here.

But I don't get why having a job like a mortician or a midwife would make you a pillock. A politician, on the other hand... but we're talking about *respectable* pillocks, aren't we? :)
