In lots of elevators, the door close button is just for show. It doesn't actually make the door close any faster.

Where I live the elevators can fit 20-some people in them so the doors stay open a long time. I always use this button if I'm the only one there and it does make it faster, although if I'm impatient it often seems like it doesn't.

What really bugs me is in apartment buildings you have to scan your fob to use the elevators. But it doesn't even matter because if you don't live there, you can just wait for someone else and go up with them. Or you can use the stairs. Everyone seems to forget about those.

The door close button works in our elevator once the door fully opens & pressing the burron registers, the various buttons are kinda finicky. Our apartment building requires a key to get inside that has to be held turned while the door is pulled open. IDK how people in a wheelchair can do that. Or a guest can get in by paging a resident on the intercom that can press a button while the guest pulls the door open. We disconnected our intercom because we would randomly get pages.

Elevators are a blessing, for people who are physically challenged. I personally don't mind the waiting, if it means not having to push upwards on a bunch of stairs.

Climbing a few flights of stairs would likely take longer than the elevator would unless your great at parkour. I'm def NOT & feel tired just thinking about it :tired:

Myth.

Some are on timers to allow stragglers to enter.  Some tap into the weight sensor to determine the load, too.

I have never encountered one that was disconnected.
