I got a text from my sister, she wanted to talk about money, she wanted me to call her, we talked on the phone, she told me that I'm getting money from my mom's social security, it will be more money than the SSI, I can get off SSI, it is hard to believe, I wish I understand more of this. My mom still taking care of me from up above :D :D 8O

Does anyone get social security from their parents that passed away?

I am so happy for you Kitty....Does this mean that you will be able to have more than 2,000 dollars in assets since you can get off SSI? I just got about 5,000 extra dollars from social security but my parents are still alive.

This is great news, Kitty!

Will this help you to move out of the group home if you are to be getting more money from this? I suppose that would depend on how much more you will get from this than the SSI you are currently receiving?

I'd say get it while the getting is good if you can. The trust is mostly out of money and neither party seems to be interested in addressing that, so the regular social security program is set for some pretty significant cuts in the next decade if the old folks that make such decisions don't decide to be less selfish.

I haven't gone to social security office yet, I need an ID & other paper work. My sister told me that I might get back pay, my mom died over 11 years ago 8O    :(

Did you get your money back from your dad? I read your post about your dad stealing your money, I felt bad for you.

If I get off SSI, will I still be with Religion Center or RC is for SSI people, I don't know. My sister told me I won't be on MediCal anymore, I will have Medicare.

Okay. ya I read some of your other thread about the ID just now. My dad ended up not fining me so he did not take the 500 dollars from me But they still owe me a whole lot of money that they have not paid back.

There is something called the Medicare Extra Help Program(the name may vary by state) for people who have Medicare & are very low income. I'm in that & Vermont Medicaid pays for my Medicare copays, deductibles, & prescription meds. There is an income & resource limit that's a little bit higher than Social Security Disability limits but they probably vary by state. You or your sis would have to contact MediCal.
