All I can say to this is 'don't bet the farm on it'.

people are just human, and that 'unconditional' love gets pretty conditional. Now, 'agape' love, or the love of God is supposed to be 'unconditional' but tell that to someone burning in hell.

so. . where is this 'unconditonal' love, really?

'Tis real, I can assure you.
Just not one wants to think.
It's a construct of your own
mind, so define it in a realistic
yet beautiful manner.

these are not my personal views btw :P

Queensryche - I dont believe in Love

...She said she loved me
I guess I never knew
But do we ever, ever really know?
She said she'd meet me on the other side
But I knew right then, I'd never find her

No more nightmares, I've seen them all
From the day I was born, they've haunted my every move
Every open hand's there to push and shove
No time for love it doesn't matter
She made a difference
I guess she had a way
Of making every night seem bright as day
Now I walk in shadows, never see the light
She must have lied 'cause she never said goodbye

I don't believe in love - I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love - I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love - I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love - It's never worth the pain that you feel

No chance for contact
There's no raison d'etre
My only hope is one day I'll forget
The pain of knowing what can never be
With or without love it's all the same to me

Hmm...I haven't really experienced love, so I can't say for certain whether I believe in it or not. But I certainly don't believe that any random two intelligent people can be married and expect to make things work out. My dad talks to me all the time about how miserable he is and exactly how much he wants out of the marriage.

Thus, I like to believe that there is such a thing as love. Perhaps it is wishful thinking?

I agree with calandale,

Whilst I don't believe in love (or anything for that matter); I can define the emotion and what it means to me.

It's probably easy to prove unconditional love -- two instantaneous gunshots will do it.

From a really cold perspective, "love" is brain chemistry created so that we humans will protect and care about each other--which helps us survive if we're on the lookout for each other. From an evolutionary standpoint this is very important. Love usually has little to do with sexual reproduction, but it takes a special form when it is combined with sexual attraction--that being the most potent form of all. It's still basically just brain chemistry, but it's not an illusion. It's an exceedingly powerful emotion. Like every other trait of humanity, it exists because it has an evolutionary importance, so it can't be imaginary.

Personally, I love the idea of love--I just wish that I'd fall for someone who was capable of feeling the same way for once.
