Very Poignant vid...been through this multiple times in my life to such degrees of severity, you would have thought the Law would have intervened. But where I lived in the far suburbs of my State in the USA at the time . The Sheriff dept and Court prosecuetors were all about doing their own forms of gaslighting,completely unexpectedly. Which cost me my entire lifes achievements for trying to keep my own already paid for home. Just about at 50 yrs of age . Pretty late in life to start over. Being disabled and autistic, seemed to cause this to happen more often for people to see me as a easy target.
Best thing to do is , at least for me was, to get away from them ASAP, and stay away. And try hard not to second guess your decision . No friends for a time , than bad friends trying to gaslight you. imho. can be demoralizing, but 1 quality friend is better then a army of bad ones.

Gaslighting is where someone is trying to get you to not believe your personal reality from your 5 senses or personal experience.

I have experienced my fair share of this, over the years, unfortunately.

Looks fairly accurate to me. The definition is important to get right, because as Wikipedia puts it,
"Some mental health experts have expressed concern that the term has been used too broadly. In 2022, The Washington Post described it as a notable example of therapyspeak, arguing it had become a buzzword improperly used to describe ordinary disagreements."

I've noticed the term misapplied by some folks as a trick to undermine the credibility of views they don't like. It's a shame it got so fashionable to broaden the term, and that few people seem to question that practice, because I think it makes it harder for people who are really being gaslighted to work out what's being done to them. Not that I'm saying the video does that. I haven't watched it - for technical reasons I'm not in a position to simply click a button on WP and play a video, so I don't watch many videos. I much prefer to read written summaries. Sorry about that.

Luckily, for reasons I don't understand, I can't recall much that happened to me that could truly be called gaslighting. A long time ago I had a partner who may have tried to insinuate that I was kind of mentally ill, but her previous long-term partner had been a very disturbed man, and she'd been with him a long time, and I often got the impression that deepdown she was expecting it all to happen again.

Part of me was beginning to feel I was something of a basket case, but I doubt there was any deliberate gaslighting going on. The relationship didn't work out so I very reluctantly ended it, and overcame my doubts about my mental health. My ASD diagnosis probably helped me to do that. Certainly I had some insecurities, and I'll probably never feel perfectly secure, but neither does anybody else, and these days I don't particularly doubt my sanity any more, though I like to stay open to real information that might warn me of such things happening. I think it's usually healthy to acknowledge doubt about anything if there are sound reasons for doubting it. I don't think I'm an easy target for anybody who wants to fool me. If anything, I'm probably over-cynical, but it does help protect me from being taken for a mug.

I will watch it when I get a minute, I've had family do this to me and of course it's happened in the workplace.
