Decent book smarts, street smarts not so much. As a result people often conclude that I am either very smart or very dumb. At any rate I'm not often perceived as "normal" or "average."

I'm definitely book smart. I've read a lot ever since I was a kid and enjoyed learning from them. Of course that was mostly things I wanted to read and learn about like animals and insects and dinosaurs and even plants and what make our bodies tick both physically and mentally.

I'm street smart only because I know what street I live on. And from watching Sesame Street. :)

But I sometimes wish I were more "life-smart" like my mother. She doesn't let a lot of things bother her and just enjoys her life. From what she's told me she was no-nonsense, didn't believe everything authority figures told her, and stayed calm when others were panicking even as a kid. Like when the Catholic school she went to years ago had a priest come to the class and basically tell the kids they were going to hell if they were of a different religion. This made several kids completely horrified but my mom told them not to listen and that they weren't going to hell. And people wonder why I'm not religious.

I'd say I was more book smart.

People have told me that while I'm quite intelligent and get good grades in school, I have very little common sense. When it comes to the practical skills of daily life, I'm clueless.

For example: a few months ago when I was on holiday, I actually stepped out on the road just to get in the car, when I could have got in the other side. :?

This sounds like me. I do well in school, but I have trouble with things like buying things at a store, ordering and receiving my order at a restaurant, etc. I need to be told how to do these things step-by-step.

I'm not any of those two things. I have more hearts than brains.

Both. I'm a bony oddball alpha-geek but life in mountains & cities has made me tough as nails. Never met somebody I wouldn't stare down. Ordinarily I'm 85% outgoing but I go all the way down to negative 50 if the situation calls for it. My friend in electrical engineering owns fire nunchucks. Usually I'm a hippie but I reside in a tribe of nerds nobody crosses.

I'd like to think I'm both.

I'm pretty wary of anyone on the streets after being scammed out of £40 in London to access (what we found out later to be) a free toilet. Ugh.
