i have a hard time with this...and i do care about people and what is happening good/bad.
but i just have a hard time showing that i do....
it goes in how i react....i avoid them, or/and talk about them with other people or in my journal....
i do care...
it is just that i don't have the right instiction wired into me on how to react properly...

anyone else with this problem?

Yeah. . .

It used to be worse, before I studdied social interaction a lot.

Such gestures, though, for me always have to be intentional, and I tend to sort of miss these things at times as well. Happily, I'm socially articulate enough to usually regain my feet. . .

I think learning empathy and sympathy is the key in showing someone you care.

Yeah..i find it difficult.
One shoddy mechanism that I use because I can't express it in more conventional ways very well is that I give people stuff....Then again...I am just as prone to compulsively give people stuff when I don't really care that much...oh well....

Oh hell yes, and it bugs me to no end. It also bugs the people around me. Even if I try to tell someone how I feel about them, it ends up a muddled jumble of words and letters that just confuses them.

Yeah. I've lost friends because of it.

Yep I feel the same as this.
Even if I do love someone I have trouble saying it because it just feels so un-natural. If I do try and say it, I end up stuttering or talking giberish by the end of it...and still don't say it.

I never have the words for these situations either, but I find ways round it. I try to think of what I can actually do to help someone, what would make them happy? For instance, I don't know what to say to comfort my mother when she's upset about her horrible job, but I can hoover the house and have dinner ready when she gets in. I think she actually appreciates it far more.

Reminds me - better log off in a min and make dinner.

I guess I find it hard to show one I care about that I care... when they're feeling up...
When down, I am much better at showing them I care, but of course I wouldnt' wish that on them...
