Just got out of a long distance relationship at the beginning of last month. Its Very difficult and the only way it can work AFAIC is to meet in person and if you guys like each other than one has to make the effort to relocate(maybe both can relocate to a new common location, who knows). Ive nearly given up with that and am trying to find people who live within driving distance. But its very hard to do that online ya know. :(

I would be willing to meet someone in person, but nobody wants to meet me.

Why not? Do they show interest otherwise?

I am not sure. I don't know if it's distance, or what.

Now, of course I would rather the person I'm looking for live locally. However, no one in my area fits that description.

I understand that. It seems like most people are pretty broadly compatible with each other. I've known groups of friends who've dated each other in every permutation, which either means that they're all remarkably compatible with each other, or they're simply more compatible with everyone (or they're just more open to dating?). It's a mystery to me.

Personally, I think long distance relationships are a bad idea unless you've already established a fairly long term relationship with the person and then they move. I know a lot of people here do it with people they've met online but as you said, it's easy enough for someone to hide their true self in person... It's hard enough for me to trust someone as it is.

I did it. It worked out fantastic. There were some tough times, but all worth it in the grand scheme of things. We met online, by accident researching ocd. He knew someone with and they thought that is what my daughter had. I messaged him privately and it continued, off the forum all day, everyday for many, many months until he hopped on a plane, travelling from England to Canada. From that point on, we saw each other every 8-10 weeks until he finally moved to Canada. We now have a beautiful biological daughter and foster son. We plan to marry in Europe next summer and really could not be more compatible.

IT IS POSSIBLE~given the right circumstances and the right people. We balanced each other out and had a lot of fun. If ever we went back in time, I wouldn't change a thing. We really did have to get creative and find ways to keep our sanity at times, but really great experiences.

I am usually the first to make bad decisions. I wont lie, but in this particular case I knew he was very sincere.

I say, we only have this one chance at this life, so live it!! :D

Well thats better than 2600 miles away! But I presume you didnt have a car or enough spare cash to visit her on weekends. But was she outside of your area code? I could handle someone a few hundred miles( <500 though), but if the distance is so great that flying is the only reliable way to visit its really hard.

Wow! That's a ringing endorsemant. It's good to hear that two people can find each other against such odds. Perhaps I need to listen to that part of me.

I agree 100%! That is a very good attitude to have about that.
