I doubt this has anything to do with the autism spectrum, but I was wondering if anyone had trouble with whistling because I can't do it really.

I never could whistle.
Last week I was watching a live video of Rammstein playing that song Engel, and I got all jealous and s**t.

I can't whistle either. People keep saying, "oh, just put your lips together and blow" but when I do it all that comes out is some weird farting noise.

I've heard that one a lot too.
When I put my lips together and blow, it doesn't make a whistling sound, IT MAKES A BLOWING SOUND.

Can't whistle, can't snap my fingers either, but I have a 200 degree range of motion in my hips!

I've been able to whistle since I was 2, according to my mum.

Yes, but as Poopylungstuffing says it takes practice.

I whistle tunes and different commands for the dog, and also whistle with grass. I can't whistle by putting two fingers in my mouth, though.

Hmmmm. I've just been whistling to try and work out how I do it and I'm still not sure. I think that maybe when you think about blowing you could be pushing your lips out slightly too much. Plus you have to use your tongue.

Try thinking about puckering your lips together from the inside out rather than just pushing them together as you only need a really small hole to whistle through. And lick them first. Your tongue has to be pressed against the back of your bottom teeth. Then blow but not really hard, just steadily. Slightly adjusting the size of the hole between your lips, your tongue position, and force of breath will vary the note and volume. It does take practice and patience but once you get it you won't forget how to do it.

Let us know how you get on :D

I never could whistle, tho I've tried every shape and technique I can think of. I've wondered if it has to do with the inherent shape of one's mouth, or the muscular control, or what. Maybe it's like wiggling your ears, where not everyone can access those commands in their nervous system. Maybe it's a genetic trait. I really don't know.

Oh, I just noticed Macallan's advice. I haven't tried that yet. I'll have to try it when noone's around.

I can sort of whistle, but not properly: it comes out as a wussy quiet sound.

I can snap my fingers and flare my nostrils, though!

I can whistle...took me a long time to learn. Can't whistle very loudly though.

I can't snap my fingers at all...I've tried and tried over the years.

I can make a faint whistle after I try for a long period of time. I don't like to hyperventilate, so I give up trying after awhile.
I can snap my fingers, but it took me forever to learn as a kid. I don't like the feeling of my finger hitting my palm in that spot. For some reason, to me it has always hurts.

I can't whistle.
I can snap my fingers but it took me a long time to figure out how.
