So, a few years ago i read one of the best religious/philosophical texts ever, and i just wanted to know if anyone here thought the same as well.

Are you familiar with the Tao Te Ching ?

I d/led a load of translations/interpretations a few weeks ago, and quickly decided the Stan Rosenthal would probably make the best introductory read. Unless someone could recommend or share thoughts on their favourites?

Me too!

I think reading several translations gives a broader base to interpret it from.

I'll help.

I discovered the Tao through contemporary anarchist circles, which might seem strange to some however the spirit of true collectivist anarchism and Taoism rely on the same key factors so it works for me.

Lao Tsu observed a world of human activity and compared it to natural phenomena, he saved a lot of us a lot of thinking by laying down the foundations which has made stepping ahead with the project of being a 'conscious' human simpler.

Lao Tzu was genius!! He could take his views on life and humanitarism and put them in an easy context for people to understand; granted they ponder his writings.

Have you read any of his kinsmens' text?

Jay (my name too is j)

I have read some later 'taoist' texts, however the obsession with longevity and other very human vanities put me off a bit - I am happy to work from the original wisdoms.

In my opinion, Confucius was one of the worst disasters ever to befall the Orient. Conformity and blind obedience is the road to slavery and death.

Everything you need to know is there to be learned from nature.

That about sums up what the Tao Te Ching taught me, sorry, peace j

I know that I am, and that is about all that I know. Everything else seems to based on interpretation and perspective. I have recenty permused Taoist thinking, I dont disagree with its philosophy. I have yet to review the book of changes.

One of my favorites:

Quote:
Without going out-of-doors,
one may know all under heaven;
Without peering through windows,
one may know the Way of heaven.

The farther one goes,
The less one knows.

For this reason,
The sage knows without journeying,
understands without looking,
accomplishes without acting.
