My friend was pretty ordinary compared to some of them here. He started as a character in a story I was writing, but essentially became so alive I eventually found myself talking to him. He was an eccentric scientist named Eli, sixty-seven years old who always wore a ratty old suit jacket. We mostly tossed ideas back and forth about inventions and science, or he simply listened and let me vent. I always pictured him looking somewhat like John Quincy Adams, one of my favorite presidents.

Don't know if this counts or not, but I sometimes talk to my Pikachu plushie as if he were real.

I had an imaginary best friend as a child, who was a total creation of my imagination.

Now, I have imaginary friends who were once real people but have since died. I knew only one of them when they were alive. It occurs to me that I'm being lazy, adopting dead people for my friends instead of using my imagination properly to make them up.

Just re-read that and I sound like a proper nutcase

He sure is! He's my friend in a dream I had last night. I was a Berserker, wearing a wolf suit like the Berserkers in Final Fantasy V. We played Rock, Paper, Scissors. And I won!

Heehee, that sounds like fun.

What kinds of dead people? You mean like celebrities/musicians/artists/presidents?

Anyway, don't feel bad about not making up your friends. All of my imaginary friends are adopted from anime I watch.

I have four stuffed skunks that I call "the chitters" collectivly. They all have names, and hop around saying "chitter" for lack of a better sounds to describe real skunk noises. I play with them and pet them and sometimes get my NT husband to do that too, before he realizes what he's doing. God, I sound like a 3 year old, and I am a married 25 year old. I would totally be embarrressed to tell anyone else this.

my daughter has her imaginary friend called Oscar. She has had him for 5 years now. She is almost 8 and he is always present. He is a dog who is adopted by "real people parents" and often oscars mum teaches my daughter many things. Also apparently they pick her up at night and she visits them in the city for the night. I love the imagination and will never let anyone tell her different. If that is how she learn to cope then so be it!! !!
