I've had this problem for a long time, but I have noticed this more when I deliver pizzas. It seems that a lot of African American women have bad attitudes twoards others. I've had several snap at me because I was a few minutes late with the order. This was never a problem with caucasian women. Sometimes I wonder if it's because I'm white. Has anyone had this problem? Why do African American women have bad attitudes twoards society?

This thread's gonna generate a lot of friendly good natured banter and informed unemotional debate. I can feel it in my water.

Where i stay most of the black women tend to be friendly and nice but they are mostly African immigrants and asylum seekers and so are a young community but rest assured i will be prodding them with a stick from now on and looking out for any signs of attitude from them with great vigilance and will report back to here with any news.

This whole modern ghetto culture thing is making thugs out of every second idiot out there no matter what color they are. I'm about ready to start hunting here. A bunch of kids threatened to key my car and I beat the living crap out of 2 of them. It's not just dark girls.
I think it's an attitude that is infecting more people and the only way to reason with most of them them is with a little lead projectile or a kick in the face.

Oh yeah, can you just feel the love coming on. :?

I have a question, however. As a black woman, I've noticed that my actions are usually considered indicative of all African-Americans, feeling that I'm being judged constantly, not for my true self but in comparison to other blacks. On the other hand, this doesn't hold true for caucasians. If one white person, for example commits a heinous crime, society doesn't automatically assume that whites are pre-disposed to become killers.

But if someone of another ethicity, for instance, a group of Arab men are suicide bombers, a black guy is unemployed, or a black woman is on welfare, they're considered a product of their ethnic group, not their environment, mental health or many other factors. I'm so sick and tired of being viewed as a walking stereotype and wish people would see me and not my race.........And no, not all black women have an "attitude" just as not all white people are "docile" and "civilized".

When it comes to black women:
The African immigrants are usually cool, the Caribbeans often have nasty attitudes, and the Americans are usually psycho. I suspect that it's a cultural defect.

[SARCASM]Oh yeah, and all white people are as pure and perfect as the driven snow. They never cuss people out, commit road rage, break out into fights, act like complete A-holes, commit crimes, act uncultured, cheat, never rude, uneducated, loud...... [/SARCASM]

From my 7 years working in customer service, being on the receiving end of unveiled threats, I can assure you that "pale skinned" people can often dish out as much if not more hell than anyone.

Oh, by the way, you're right. I am psycho.

The thing about alot of black people, they don't see racism as a two way street.

They think they have the right to treat white people like crap.

It's the same with the natives in New Zealand.

And alot of white people think they have the right to treat black people (or any minority, for that matter) like crap. YOU don't see racism as a two way street.

In my not-so-humble opinion whites are the worst race out there. Just look at what we've done to the world. Look at how many cultures/civilizations we've dilluted or destroyed through our arrogance and overblown sense of self-entitlement.

Statements like yours remind me of what my Aunt Pat said to me once, "White people came from god. Black people came from monkeys."

I can't blame minorities for being angry. Look at the sh*t they have to put up with from us.

*sigh* I very rarely get mad, but racism in any form makes me tick. There's nothing that'll get my back up faster than a racist comment. I have adopted siblings of various races, and I have tasted a bit of racism by being around them(not trying to say I've had the experience, because I know I haven't, I just know it a bit better than most white people) I have also had to defend them many times against stupid ignorant ^(^$#^)(**&%( who live around here(I refer to it as a northern redneck marry-your-cousin type area) I don't care what people say. Our society is not equal. there is no reason to say "Black women have attitude" some of them do, some don't. SAME AS WHITES!! ! The ONE and ONLY difference is the color of their skin, totally external. It is a despicable thing to judge someone by their race or nationality(among other things, but this is about race).

That comment doesn't even deserve a response

I'd better stop ranting now before I say something I regret.

I'm sure it's possible to start a thread trashing any group, but that's outside the scope of this thread. When it comes to personality charicteristics, I've found that I'm least likely to get along with black females and Mexican males. Call it racist if you must, but it is a defense mechanism that has served me well for close to a decade.

The issue is more about a general "thug" culture, that White or Black or anybody can be a part of. Its unfortunate that this stereotypical bad attitude personality is associated with a specific race. Its about the actions of the individual, not the ethnicity of the person.

I will say that the Hard-Core Rap culture, that is wrongly associated with all Black people and is what is shown of Black people the most in the media... but White people can be a part of this just as much (just look at Eminem) so its not a race thing... just a popular culture thing... has destructive ideas and actions of the members partcipating in this group. But this is a cultural construct, not a race construct. Just as I wouldn't want to be associated with any white supremist group, its also wrong to associate all Black people with this hardcore super attitude "thug" culture... since it is a construct and not a defining characteristic of a race.

I would say you could have a Black person who has grown up around this Thug culture is probably going to emulate the culture he has grown up in. But take this same person and have him grow up in a middle class Japanese culture, and you will probably see a very different person grow up. So its not about the race at all... but a specific culture that is mostly associated with one Race... but has many members of other races trying to act like the same exact culture...

That's very idealistic Pugly, but idealism leaves you vulnerable from a perspective of self-preservation.

I am not saying that I don't have fear, and generally try to avoid these "thug" types as I call them. Because as much problems I have interacting with NTs, the communication problems would be ten-fold when dealing with these people.

There is a full spectrum of people of all races that I generally try to avoid, to the people I generally like to be around with of each race. But I have just as many problems fitting in and communicating with a stereotypical white red-neck group, as I would a stereotypical black "thug" gang type group... So again it doesn't have anything to do with race to me. And my "defense" mechanisms are the same when dealing with either group.

I am idealistic about race relations to the point that Race isn't an issue to me, and there are people of all types shapes and colors that I generally don't want to be around. I have just as many problems with a white gangster as a black gangster as a mexican gangster, just as I would get along very well with a white nerd or a black nerd or a mexican nerd.

So I maintain I can have self-preservation in mind... and still be idealistic about race relations.

what an absolute pile of bollocks, saving the obvious exceptions.

"and all people on the autistic spectrum are computer geeks, male, will never have a long term partner, and are like christopher from 'curious incident'."

i'm almost reluctant to dignify this piffle with cogent argument, as it's laughable, the ridiculousness of some of the comments. but people with real power say the same things, which makes it dangerous.

as for "defence mechanisms" and "self-preservation"... well, that says it all - divide and conquer has worked for years, and is obviously still working. "cultural defect" skates far too disturbingly close to nazi thinking, for my liking.

i do not deny that different cultures have different ways of socialising (cos it would be stupid). when i work in schools with a lot of african-caribbean kids, they are [b]generally[b/] louder and more assertive, compared to - for example - schools with a higher proportion of bangladeshi kids. but it's not "attitude" or negative stereotyping, it's how they interact. and please note, i said "generally" - there are plenty of "quieter" black kids, and plenty of "noisier" white ones. interestingly, it's the girls who show the difference most clearly - cos we're all supposed to be quieter, aren't we?

which leads me on to...

interesting that the original post talked about women though - i'm not railroading this into a personal hobby horse, but i do have to wonder whether the fact that women being more loud and assertive is the "problem", as much as race. just a thought.

This thread seems unproductive.
However it does highlight some of the aspects of US culture and of aspergers that make life more difficult.

I suspect that having aspergers makes it difficult for me to achieve the amount of paradigm shifts that would result in my being truly open minded.

If you expect and look for a certain behavior, quite often you will be responsible for creating it, whether as a product of your expectation, or as a product of your inability to interpret differences from what you expect as anything other than what you expect.

I expect someone is trolling again.

It is often the case that people who make statements such as the ones that began and are driving the negative parts of this thread (including the defensive ones) know little about the subject of which they speak. This is one of the diagnostic criteria for aspergers.

Lack of knowledge is the primary weapon of trolls.

US culture trains us in certain stereotypes. Then we all get the opportunity to perpetuate them and drive their evolution into various forms of institutionalized discrimination.
Often, when we encounter a stereotype, we fail to realize that we also have the opportunity to create, participate in and/or drive a paradigm shift that could result in a world that is better for anyone who thinks a little bit differently.

OK. Was I talking about black people or people with aspergers? Think about it. That'll put you five steps ahead of all the other people who are reading this thread and not thinking about it.

If we support the restriction of the reasonable freedoms of others, then we support the right of others to restrict our freedom.

Quote:
There is a saying... which many of us have heard since we were school children... . "With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably." These words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie -- as a wisdom, and warning. The first time any man's freedoms are trampled, we are all damaged. Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek:TNG "The Drumhead"

Thanks to those of you who made "I" statements, and to those of you who didn't take other people's "I" statements personally.

As a brown man who is often mistaken for a woman (or a thug, depending on the level of anxiety of the person I encounter), I encounter a lot of negative expectation. When I don't meet those expectations, amazingly, things often get worse. People try to provoke me. Are they aware? Possibly not. They are trying to prove their hypothesis, that's all. This is why a lot of research is flawed. If you look hard enough, you undoubtedly will find what you are looking for.
