I work the evening shift once a fortnight serving dinner and cleaning the kitchen and common room in a homeless shelter. That and church services make up the entire of my social life outside my family. I like working there, because aside from the do-gooding, it's meaningful human contact with clearly defined rules, and if I don't feel up to talking to anyone, I can do the hated pot washing-up and earn the gratitude of the other volunteers, whilst simultaneously avoiding contact with the guests who are forbidden from going in the kitchen.

Aside from that, I give to the Refugee Council and Medicins sans Frontiers. I have a huge soft spot for the homeless, the destitute and the outcasts.
