ugghh...i know he didn't mean it, but somebody asked me this at school today. my responses are always different. i mean what do i say to people who ask me this question? i'm still trying to figure my crazy mind out. i know why i'm quiet but the answer doesn't ever come out the way i wish it would.

by the way my response to his question was "I'm not quiet...you just see me when i'm quiet."

I am a Library Science Major? Our training is very strict.

Why are you so quiet on WP? We miss you.

Why is he hitting on the quiet girl?

Tinky is a big girl now, and those things happen.

Remember our talk? Not till after your Freshman year.

ehhhh dont worry, maybe they ask you that, not so much to know why you're so quiet, but because its a way for them to talk with you, show interest in you, ya know? tell em "because you werent talking to me!" haha

Possible responses...

"Shh, can you hear it? There! You hear that? ...Banality!"

"I moved house two years ago and I'm trying to remember if I left the oven on!"

"I'm telepathic, do you want me to repeat that last thought?"

"Somebody jinxed me and I'm not supposed to speak until... DAMN IT!"

"I had a gobstopper I've been working on for three days and you just made me swallow it!"

"If you don't have anything nice to say..."

"I have reverse Tourettes, and I'll thank you not to draw attention to it!"

"I'm not too quiet, it's just the silence here is too loud."

"What? You'll have to speak up! I got the new iPod micro and it fell into my ear!"

"Sorry, I get confused between thinking and talking... Damn you're smokin' hot."

"I'm the strong silent type... Your more the annoying, yapping dog type."

"Shh, I can't talk to you and the voices in my head at the same time."

'Because the voices in my head told me to shut up and keep cleaning the guns'.

I get the same thing all the time, but usually it's the sarcastic version: "Hey Kim, shut up! Why are you so loud all the time?" It's a really boring thing to say, like saying to someone walking a dog, "Hey, who's walking who?" When someone says something like that to me, it makes me want to avoid them. And that's usually what I do.

Oh, I hate that! The thing is, it makes sense for extroverted people to ask introverted people, "Why are you so quiet?" AND it makes sense of introverted people to ask extroverted people, "Why are you so loud?" But of course, only the loud, extroverted people will bother saying it, because it's in their nature to...LOL.

I usually just say, "I don't know. Why are you so loud?" in a joking way. Don't let it affect you. :)

Respond, in a whisper, "So you can hear me."

I was asked many times instead, when I was younger: "Why are you so sad"? which conviction was caused by the fact it always takes so much effort (for me, at least) to form a facial gesture (in fact the only facial expression I feel well, having it, is a smile - but I don't have a habit to open my mouth then so it's a smile of Gioconda).

I'm quiet because I simply don't know what to say when I'm among people - there's no need to explain this, not on this forum :D If I started to talk to my peers about things I have a liking for, I'd be found crazy by them.

Edal, what a wonderful answer  I'll plagiarize it next time somebody will hit upon an idea to torture me with this stupid question

 those are some great ones. i like the last one so much that i might just use it.

mr. mark: in response to why i've been so "quiet" on wp....*shrugs* i slowly stopped caring about going on wp. now, i'm slowly starting to care about wp, again.

i realized this two weeks ago about my quietness: i truly don't feel like i'm worthy to talk with certain groups of people or voice my opinon in classes at school. i tell myself that i am worthy but when it comes to talk...nada. my mind is also always somewhere else.

I get this a lot too!! It drives me crazy. I just tell people that either I have nothing to say or simply listening to their conversation.

There was a boy who didn't talk. Everyone was terribly sad as they were sure there was something wrong with him. Then one day at breakfast he spoke.

"There's no jam on my muffin."

Everyone was ecstatic and overjoyed. They asked him, "Why have you never spoken before now?"

"Up til now, everything's been fine."
