I have kept an old slide from when I was about 4, its broken, but the thought of throwing it away would leave my heart broken. And its not just the slide.

I form a lot of emotional attachments to objects.
I do try to restrain myself, though. I don't want to end up as a horder.
Also I hate clutter.
I love plastic storage bins...

My girlfriend is like this, and I also used to have this problem as a kid, up until a few years ago.

Nope. I do, however, have trouble with people who don't throw stuff away. But only if they live with me.

I see what you mean. Throwing stuff away does make more room.

It seems so wasteful to throw things away. I feel guilty piling manufactured metal & plastic items into skips.

Post subject: Anyone else have trouble throwing stuff away?

No...because I keep it all in nice neat piles so I never have to deal with that 'throwing away' stuff! :lmao:

If it weren't for my nice neat piles and boxes... my house would be a mess! 8O

Throw away what? All that important stuff I'll probably need someday? You must be MAD!:jester:

They say I'm addicted to collecting stuff and I'm unable to throw anything away... I could... I just don't wanna!

Just as soon as I sit down and organize everything, I'll be able to toss the stuff I don't need. Hmmm, now where did that list of things to do go? starts digging through piles of papers :eye:

Naw! Why just the other day I threw loads of stuff away.... a way over to the other side of my room!

Had enough yet?

I often hold onto rubbish, because I'm afraid of wasting it.

This is hilarious, it's obviously a classic aspie trait, and the other end of it is obsessive and compulsive order. hahah it's an order disorder!
no seriously, I just recently posted a question about clutter and the collection of things, the inablity to throw anything away, etc,
WSMAC you are hilarious!

I hate to throw stuff away, I just thought I took after my maternal grandmother in that respect.

Her house was a treasure trove containing all the artifacts of my mother's (and her siblings') own childhood(s) as well as every outdated fashion accessory (wigs and all) my grandmother had ever owned, and also, all my late grandfather's possessions right down to his collection of 'The Saint' books and MENSA magazines.

How I adored my maternal grandmother's house!

My own is as jam-packed of stuff, but much messier (to my dismay). I'm not only hyper-'retentive' when it comes to 'stuff', I'm unfortunately also hyper-disorganised - not the most ideal combination.

My missus calls me a hoarder, I just consider myself to be inefficient at storage ;)

Seriously though, I've used mnemonics as a means of memorising things ever since I was a kid, and as a result of which, the stuff I "hoard" is down to the fact that memories are usually attached to them, and hence throwing these away is like throwing memories away and I don't like to do it so much for that reason.

Luckily we have a large loft :D

i do have trouble getting rid of things. i used to be worse.

here's the best tip:
if you need to get rid of something but dont want to beacause of a memory attached to the item, take a digital photo of the item before throwing it away.

I'm getting better at it...I've realized that I actually need space to live.

My grandmother was an aspie...she had a 12 room farmhouse with a huge attic...I think she had the Dead Sea scrolls stashed in there somewhere...it was amazing. 8O My house isn't too big, I'm trying to contain myself.
