Check out eBay for weighted blankets and vests. I really need one so I'm currently making myself a weighted blanket...if only I wasn't such a procrastinator.

Yeah, I got a nice weighted blanket from eBay. I love it.

Personally, I don't believe you need to buy weighted blankets, all you have to do is pile about 5 heavy wool blankets on top of you, and turn the heat down in your bedroom so that you don't get too warm...well, that's for sleeping and if I want the weight on my lap while I'm doing something, I just fold one of my extra long wool blankets to a smaller size and lay it across my lap...I've been buying way too many blankets on ebay because I have a tendency to go overboard when I take an interest in collecting something, and I inadvertantly discovered that many blankets on top of me was a good thing because I fell in love with all of the blankets I bought, and couldn't choose just one to sleep with, ended up with all of them in my bedroom, and then ended up with 3 on me, which then led to 4 and then to 5, hilarious or what? I've bought a total of about 20 antique, beautiful wool blankets with lovely designs, and 5 hand made quilts, and I rotate them...this is an old house and my bedroom doesn't exactly get too warm anyway, you know? I didn't know how comforting and how well I'd sleep this way except by accident...I highly recommend it! I've always slept with a lot of blankets but nothing beats the weight of a vintage wool blanket...plus the designs are out of this world beautiful! Also I've had a blast bidding on these blankets and it's a thrill when you win the bid, but if you do the ebay thing, be careful not to bid too high on any particular blanket because if you win it, you must pay for it...and remember, there will always be more blankets to bid on...just as pretty as the one you lost the bid on...this is advice from an ebay adict, :D

I love blankets too! Not only am I cold all the time, but finding the perfect blanket is just orgasmic for me. The perfect color, the perfect fabric, the perfect thickness. K, just thought I'd add that :P

Krista, you've gotta get you some antique/vintage wool blankets from ebay girlfriend! I've got the most beautiful blanket collection in the whole world now, and it feels great to have so many to choose from :) 'bout 25 bucks each and about 10 dollars shipping :D

Sounds heavenly! I spent that much for the cheapest blanket I could find at WalMart. Though it was beautiful, chocolate brown velvet with MATCHING PILLOWCASES. Mmm, matching pillowcases.

I've officially hijacked this thread to discuss my love for blankets.

I do LOVE ebay, so my fiance (does not) thank you in advance for the money I'm about to spend

I used to sleep with the heaviest down comforters, even in the summer with no a/c on. My parents thought I was nuts.

Now I use a lap desk for my computer--you know, the ones with the cushion on the bottom and the flat top. I LOVE the way it feels! It spreads out the weight from the computer and warms up a little bit from body heat. What a great feeling it is to come home after work and lounge around with my legs out and the lap desk on them!

huh.. i never thought anything of it, either.. but i always liked weighted things on me, mostly my stomach.. it's very comforting. i use to lay down and set the laptop on my stomach.. my mom thought i was crazy and i'd cramp my neck and it was kinda hard to type.. lol.. but it was worth it. i use to have this really heavy doll.. suppose to be the weight of a real baby or whatever, that i would put on my stomach. i think i'd really like a weighted blanket or something.. :D i'll have to look into it more. thanks for bringing it up.

I always make my fiance lay on top of me. It's really comforting to feel constricted like that. I'm considering some kind of adult swaddling.

180 lbs of hot guy all over me is the best therapy ever.

The post about the cat reminds me that I love it when I'm kneeling on the floor to get or clean something, and my puppy lies down on the backs of my legs.

I especially love getting x-rays at the dentist because of the lead apron. I tend to tell the dentist to just leave it on me while he is working and he is like "ugh ok" I become so calm and relaxed. He got a new one last year that's heavier than his old one and extremely soft. I think you would be interested in my "what are your favorite sensations" thread at http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt50193.html

this is one of those 'yes, me too!' threads. I always wondered why people liked down comforters when it's so nice to have a pile of heavy wool on.

wrt buckwheat pillows: some co-op type stores sell buckwheat hulls in bulk, and you can make your own buckwheat pillow for cheap - basically, just a sack made out of fine weave and/or doubled-up fabric. I made one for myself years ago, before I'd ever heard of AS.

I bought a custom weighted blanket from www.weightedblanket.net (Dreamcatcher blankets) and I love it!

Don't judge them by their terrible website; the blankets are of the very best quality. I ordered a 17lb full/double bed size in amazing fabric prints that I love. The recommendation is 10% of your body wieght plus one pound, but I went over that. I'm about 115 lbs. I've had it for almost a year and now I wish it were even heavier. I use it mainly for sleeping, but sometimes if I'm super-stressed I'll curl up under it on the couch. Its difficult to move though...I guess that's why they make lap pads.

I sleep SO much better with this blanket!I had a lifetime of sleeping problems and now my blanket gets me to sleep really fast. I especially like this one because they let you choose any fabric you want. You can even send them a special fabric and they'll make that.

My blanket cost almost $200. It was worth it. I researched a lot of options and many of the cheaper ones use bad materials for the weight like seeds, pebbles, or rice. These are not washable and can ruin the fabric. My blanket is machine washable, though I haven't had to try that yet.

I highly recommend getting a weighted blanket, especially from weightedblanket.net

i just sent a question asking if they can make them in neoprene

I've had a weighted blanket for years. I can't recommend it highly enough.
If I'm having a meltdown or panic attack, I get under the weighted blanket and *instantly* feel relief.

Here's an important point: the weight is made by polyester pellets. The blanket has absolutely no effect on temperature as air passes through it. So it's comfy in summer. Also goes well in washing machine. Mine is too big for the washing machine so I put it on the floor, spray with Febreze, and vacuum. Turn it over, repeat. Twice a year.

I've been searching and I can't find where I bought it. "Dreamcatcher" rings a bell but that doesn't mean much.
