Quote:
It'll be tougher to have sex or smoke on sidewalks or in parks in Berkeley, Calif., after the City Council passed a controversial new measure Tuesday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Public Commons for Everyone Initiative cracks down on yelling, littering, camping, drunkenness, smoking, urinating and sex on sidewalks and in parks; the ordinance also provides housing benefits, counseling and public toilets to the university town's homeless population, the paper reports.

"There are people on the streets that we as a society are collectively responsible for," City Councilman Laurie Capitelli told the paper. "I think sometimes people need help fixing their lives, and we collectively have to help people do that."

Seniors and social workers will be responsible for monitoring street behavior, the Chronicle reports.

I would have never thought I would see the day--seeing that that is Berkeley, the hippie factory.

On the one hand, these measures make the streets more sanitary.

On the other hand, no more sidewalk sex.

Well, Berkeley still isn't as bad as Singapore (anyone remember the Michael Fay incident?)

I'm sure gravel rash is heaps worse than carpet burn anyway (not that I know, perhaps someone can enlighten us on this).

Cheers,

That's correct. Where the grass is.

My ex, who's been to Mexico City several times, told me that it's common for couples to have sex in the parks, as long as they cover themselves with a blanket. There will often be several couples doing it within sight of each other, and it's allowed. I'd think that would be weird. :? I mean, I wouldn't exactly be in outdoor-social mode.

Lol, yeah, with people around, all doing it... that's kinda weird.

I'm talking like in one of those tubular slides at 3am when no one's in sight. I guess it's bad that I've done it where kids play, huh? Yeah. Real bad probably.
