Are there any people out there who have multiple obsessions instead of just one. And like me are those obsessions the only things you care about? My obsession is Wllr and thats all I care about.

Was that an intentional paradox? lol

Nope, It's always been one great obsession, that changes over a long period of time. In my case at least.

I've read in the "OASIS guide to AS" about a survey regarding special interests, and the result was something like with some people they seem to get more as they get older, i.e. children have just one or two, whereas some adults reported to have as many as six.

I have a number of obsessions. As an AS adult, six sounds about right!

NFL football
MLB
The blues, jazz, and history of my favorite rock bands
playing instruments by ear
I have even managed to develop one about what I do for a living, which is very useful...

I always have one central one, and then a few smaller peripheral ones at times, usually offshoots. My obsessions is the show House, and a mini obsession is the television writers' strike, because it affects it so much. I have a few other smaller ones, but it's always one big one at a time.

Cars and sportbikes is my main obsession. Mostly VW, porsche, bentley, volvo , and toyota but everything for the most part.

I play a fair bit of video games. forza 2, diablo 2, test drive unlimited, and saints row.

Every couple of weeks i'll have some little thing that i'll become obsessed with for a few days.

Feasibly there is only one dominant obsession at one time. But I don't usually abandon other areas of interest all together. I'm not a narrow interest aspie. I'm more of random, lateral kind of thinker with lots of potential interest lined up.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know. :roll:

Heroes - the tv show
Video Games -> (Square-Enix/Penny Arcade)
Music -> (Lightning Bolt/The Locust)

Most of what I do revolves around the first two, sometimes while listening to the third. I just finished reading all of xkcd's archive, so that one's dead. Well, that's not entirely true, as I know I'm going to migrate from there to every webcomic they parodied.

So yeah, I usually have one or two big'uns with a few smaller ones to occupy my time when I'm not doing the big'uns.

I also have a sort of hierarchy of interests where I will do a certain amount in depth on a subject and may elevate that interest at the later date.

What is an obsession? If it is just talking about it and think about it a little more than would be deemed just a passing thought then I started thinking about ducks when some mallards flew down besides my window in university, when I was feeling crap. I didn’t start researching ducks properly until a couple years later. I don’t need to think about them all the time it is not dominant interest at the moment. But I am drawn to them, it is a little joke that when I’m in a park with my friends or on my birthday it is just customary to go see them. :)

I notice some aspies will talk about a particular thing extensively without necessarily getting involved in the intellectual side. It is more of a personal thing. You don’t have to obsess in an intellectualised way.

That's how it's been for me. At first, I was only obsessed with dinosaurs and dragons. Then I became obsessed with all animals. By the time I was in high school, I had four main obsessions, and now I don't even know how many obsessions I have.
