There is a little boy at my school who makes a honking sound at random.
He has been doing it for a few weeks and the sound is driving everyone crazy!

Does anyone know of someone who has done something similar to this boy?
Or has anyone done something themselves?
Is this honking sound some sort of tic related or not related to Aspergers?

:?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

I remember when I wore a long red coat and I suddenly realized that if I kept my hands in the pockets and held them out, I had big red wings. So I pretended to be a bird and squawked at everyone. Birds don't talk, so I didn't explain what I was doing.

I encountered the boy today and he said to me "I can't help it."

Haven't experienced a kid who does that in a while... it could be anything, really, though I doubt it's AS. Tourette's or another autism-related disorder are most likely it, if it's anything at all. It may just be an annoying impulse that doesn't link to anything.

The father of an old friend of mine had a cleft pallet, he made an odd honking sound when he had troubles breathing.

is it a noise he makes deliberately or accidentally?

Making noises is aspie and it's a way of "stimming" and helps them to relax.

You may need to find stimming alternatives for him.

arg. I went to a school for a few days where the boy behind be constantly was making a honking sound with his nose. this nasty thing all the time, and snot would shoot out. i even said one time when i ahd to sit right next to him "excuse me, but you are getting snot on my shirt" and the teacher yelled at me. She then told my mother that he had become schizophrenic because of meds, and was relearning everything.

I used to run up and down the playground exactly mimicking the sound of a car engine, if that's any help?

The boy freaks out when people tell him to stop and he has asthma.

The noise can be part of AS or Autism...eg,a reaction to feelings and sensory input, likes the feel of the sound in back of throat, part of the persons' echolilia etc.

The problem is the boy does not have Autism nor Tourette's.
