Only Fools And Horses

If you had a race horse what would you call it?

"Sail On, Silver Girl" (From "A Bridge Over Troubled Water").

I had a horse named Silver Girl.

I like it but it doesn't like me. Too sweet.

I'd call my race horse: ManyHappyReturns or Luck Be A Lady

What is you favorite mode of transport?

Ideally it's trains, but I can't afford to use them regularly.

How far have you walked today?

I've not been out but I did 10 miles cycling and 3 miles cross trainer which I think is about the recommended 10,000 steps per day equivalent.

What was the last train journey you went on?

I have never been on one.

Same question.

Manchester to Newcastle and back, January 2020, just before the first lockdown.

Have your energy bills doubled yet over the last year?

No but I'm on equal billing so it takes a year to catch up with me.

Similar. Not sure what 'equal billing' is, but I seem to be on some kind of fixed-rate deal at the moment, which may be the same kind of thing, but I'm almost certain it'll expire within the next few weeks. Am expecting prices to have gone up 50%-100% by the year's end.

Do you use glasses for reading?

They average out the previous year and divide by 12.
At the end of the year you might have a discount on a payment or owe a little more.
If you owe a little more they just factor it into the following year.

I did go up about $30 / month this year, based on 2021.
In 2020 the rates were reduced a little to offset everyone losing their job.
The service charges and carrying fees are worse than the cost of consumption.

We also pay by time-of-use so it forces me to do everything electrical in the evenings.
I hate that because I'm tired by evening and don't feel cleaning.

I use glasses for everything but yes especially reading.
I can't read at all without glasses, no matter the font size or zoom.
I'd be entirely disabled without my glasses.

Mmm..thanks for the info on the energy bills. That 'time of day' thing sounds a bit like 'dynamic pricing' or 'surge pricing', which is a sinister development. Our standing charges have gone up steeply as well.

I don't use glasses for reading. My left eye is near-sighted, so I do all my reading with that - if I try to use my right eye to read the laptop screen 2 ft away, I can't read a thing, just a blur.

How many pictures do you have on the walls in your house?

I should clarify, I meant they average out the previous year's consumption - not the previous year's cost. I assume the cost would come out the same as what you already paid, if it were done by averaging cost. 8)

Yes I think it discriminates against people who work nights, and people who want to clean in the day when their kids are at school or whatever.

My eyes are both different and I have a different prescription on each side. I have four pair of prescription glasses.
1) Just readers, for print books -- colour tinted for photophobia
2) Reader / Midrange (laptop screen distance) Bifocals -- also tinted for photophobia

* I read print books much closer to me than a computer screen. ^

3) Daytime driving sunglasses (reader / long distance)
4) Nighttime driving clear lenses (reader / long distance without tint)

I also shut one eye when I read even though I shouldn't.

Pictures - Maybe about 20. But I have a pretty big house, and I'm counting a few decorative analogue clocks.

I've just checked - I've got 7 pictures.

What is your favourite soup?

French onion, or mushroom.

I don't like anything wet with meat in it.
